PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Josh Curtis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Thompson's choice of entrance music: Raise Your Hands. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson is looking to clinch but Curtis is avoiding it.
Curtis fails with the takedown.
Curtis tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Thompson swivels and escapes.

Thompson drives through with a takedown into guard.
Curtis is trying to control the position but Thompson postures up.
Thompson trying to control the position from guard on top but Curtis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Curtis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Thompson thows a big elbow that misses.
Curtis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

and Thompson counters with a single leg into guard. Curtis didn't expect that.

Curtis wants to sweep here but Thompson controlling him for the moment.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Thompson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Curtis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Thompson pinned against the cage. Thompson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Thompson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Thompson tries to move into full mount but can't pass Curtis's legs.
Thompson wants to control but Curtis is keeping him busy.

Curtis managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Thompson.
The referee asks Thompson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Thompson prefers to stall for the moment though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Thompson moves in looking to clinch but Curtis pushes him off.

Curtis avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Thompson ducks right into an uppercut from Curtis.

Thompson connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Curtis some visible discomfort.

Thompson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Curtis knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Tommy Thompson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Thompson tries a head kick but it misses.
Curtis thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Thompson if he has to take too many more of those.

Thompson wants to take a breather but Curtis manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Thompson.

Thompson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Curtis can't keep his opponent in guard - Thompson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Thompson is stalling here. Curtis is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Thompson seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Curtis has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Curtis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Thompson throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Curtis is staying tight to Thompson's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Thompson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Curtis, pushing him back against the cage.

Thompson is pressed up against the cage. Curtis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Thompson down to the mat. Thompson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Thompson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Curtis is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Thompson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Curtis's back instead.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Curtis is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Thompson looking to break Curtis's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Curtis remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Thompson will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I've got Thompson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
