PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Henry Six (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Angelo Marin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Henry Six!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Angelo Marin!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Six checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Marin throws a quick inside leg kick.
Six avoids the head kick by Marin.
Marin tries to clinch but Six moves out of range.
Six lands with a nice combination. Marin backs away looking to recover.

Marin clinches up with Six and pushes him back against the cage.
Marin with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Marin utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Six tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Marin just stands there and leans against the cage.
Six is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Marin to keep the fight standing.
Six tries to pull guard but Marin holds him up against the cage and eventually Six drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Henry Six. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Six jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Marin walks away with a smile on his face. Six gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Six fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Marin checks it well.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Marin can do anything to dispel that myth.

Marin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Six. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Six really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Marin trying to keep a closed guard but Six is proving a slippery customer.
Six passes Marin's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Six seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Marin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Six fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Marin manages to avoid it.

Six closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Marin is not content to let Six control the position.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Six connects with a nice short shot to Marin's temple.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Six lands a nice short elbow.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Marin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Six rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Marin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Six throws a right hand that Marin ducks under and follows up with a left that Marin also avoids with ease.
Six looks for a takedown but Marin sprawls well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Marin is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Six motions for Marin to come forward. Six throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Six changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Marin tries to avoid it but Six manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Marin to the ground. Marin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Marin pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Marin uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Six.

Six jumps guard but Marin stands there with Six around his waist. Six gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

That was a close second round but I would say that Henry Six will probably get the nod.

That's time! Six's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Six shoots in for a double leg but Marin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Six tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Marin swivels and escapes.
Some bone on bone action there as Marin checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Six has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Marin uses from the top position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Six, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
