PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jose Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wojtek Szyszka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Jose Silva has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Wojtek Szyszka!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Szyszka fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Silva, pushing him back against the cage.
Silva leaning against his opponent.

Szyszka is trying to trip Silva. He has hold of a leg but Silva is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Szyszka persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Szyszka must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Szyszka looking to sit in guard and control but Silva gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Szyszka controls Silva momentarily but Silva frees himself.
Silva pushes down on Szyszka's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Szyszka pushes Silva off looking to stand but Silva dives back in and keeps control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Szyszka is refusing to be controlled, as Silva sits in half guard.
Silva wants to stand but Szyszka has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Silva looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Szyszka can do anything to dispel that myth.
Szyszka tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Silva wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Szyszka is trying to control Silva's posture but Silva avoids it.
Szyszka is looking to reverse the position.
Silva wants to lay and pray for a moment but Szyszka keeps working.
Szyszka wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Silva has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Silva gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Szyszka makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Szyszka looks to land a combination but Silva avoids it well.
Silva looks for a takedown but Szyszka sprawls well.

Silva parries the strikes from Szyszka easily there. Szyszka is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Silva to escape.
Szyszka misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Szyszka takes a little break here. Silva wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Silva is not content to let Szyszka control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wojtek Szyszka dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Szyszka rushes Silva and presses him up against the cage.
Szyszka tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Silva avoids it.
Szyszka avoids the elbow strike from Silva, against the cage.
Silva goes for a takedown in the clinch but Szyszka prevents it.

Szyszka works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Silva preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Szyszka stands and steps away. Silva gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Szyszka shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Szyszka was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Silva is trying to escape the position but Szyszka is controlling the position.

and Silva counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Szyszka's guard now.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Szyszka escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Silva gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Wojtek Szyszka showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Szyszka accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Szyszka closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Szyszka in particular looking to stall.
Silva is trying to get back to full guard.
It looks like Szyszka is going to stand back up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Silva enables Szyszka to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Silva manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Silva might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Szyszka is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Silva pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Szyszka bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Silva's guard.
Szyszka passes Silva's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Szyszka is trying to control the action in half guard but Silva is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Well Szyszka has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
