PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dillon Runyon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dillon Runyon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Miller!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller stuffs the takedown.
Runyon goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Runyon fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Miller.
Runyon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Runyon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Runyon tries to clinch but Miller moves out of range.

Miller looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Runyon!

Miller decides to stand back up. Miller steps back and let's Runyon get back to his feet.
Runyon looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Miller is fending him off so far but Runyon persists. Nope, Miller circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dillon Runyon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Miller counters with a single leg into guard. Runyon didn't expect that.

Miller won't allow Runyon to get back to his feet.
Runyon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Miller on the ground.

Miller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Runyon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Runyon is trying to keep Miller in close.

Dillon Runyon has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Miller tries to clinch but Runyon is having none of it.
Miller is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Runyon is breathing heavily.
Miller throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Runyon's waist but Runyon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Miller off to one side.

Miller escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Runyon might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Miller tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Miller has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Runyon tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Miller wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Runyon is trying to control Miller's posture but Miller avoids it.

Miller is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Runyon knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Miller in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Runyon wants to control but Miller postures up.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Miller lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Runyon at a distance.
Horrible takedown by Miller or perhaps it was just good defense by Runyon which made him look bad.

Runyon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Miller keeps working.

The fighters are battling for position here. Miller manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Runyon scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Runyon postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Miller lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Runyon!
Runyon is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Miller lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Miller is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Runyon can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Runyon holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Miller tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Miller thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Runyon is really stuck here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Miller throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Miller is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Runyon is defending well though. Miller let's go of the attempt for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Miller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Miller closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Miller throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Runyon to regain full guard.

Runyon has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Miller off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Runyon shoots in looking for a takedown. Miller tries to sprawl out of it but Runyon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Miller manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

and Runyon counters with a series of strikes. Miller will be more careful next time no doubt.

Miller shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Runyon's guard.
Miller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Runyon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Miller wants to control from the top but Runyon keeps moving.
Runyon is looking to stand up but Miller isn't so interested in that idea.

Runyon had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Miller defends it easily.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Josh Miller hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Miller shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Miller gets to his feet - Runyon follows without any prompting.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Runyon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Miller paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Miller manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Runyon on his heels. He'll look to pass Runyon's guard now, I'm sure.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Josh Miller comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Miller has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
