PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Albert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay C (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Albert kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is My Way- Frank Sinatra. Jay C will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Frankie Albert!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jay C!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
C looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Albert scores with a takedown into C's guard.
C is trying to control the position from the bottom.

C is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Albert won't allow C to sweep him here.
Albert tries to stand but C is controlling from the bottom.
Albert postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Albert distracts C with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Albert throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
C preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Albert has taken the fight to the clinch.
C manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

C wants a takedown but no success here.
C is trying to break the clinch but Albert has him pressed against the cage.

C has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Albert uses from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Albert wanted to stand there but C had control of the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
C trying to keep a closed guard but Albert is proving a slippery customer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

C looks gassed!

Albert pushes C up against the cage in a clinch.
C fails to pull guard.
Albert wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but C has him pressed against the cage.
C tries to break the clinch but Albert is controlling the position.

Albert breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
C slips a jab and a cross from Albert.

Albert scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
C won't allow Albert to pass to mount.
Albert knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for C on the ground.
Albert is keen to just control but C is a slippery customer.
Albert stalling.
Albert landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Albert not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Albert not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Albert stands up and beckons C to join him on the feet.

Albert gets in close and instigates a clinch.

C tries to score a body lock takedown but Albert shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Frankie Albert has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay C.

C breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
C misses with a combination

and Albert counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
C wants to get back to his feet.
Albert throwing shots but C is blocking nicely.
C pushes Albert off looking to stand but Albert dives back in and keeps control.
Albert is looking to advance position but C won't allow it.
C tries to roll over but Albert keeps him under control.
C makes his way to full guard. A much better position for C.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frankie Albert dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Albert closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

C breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Albert misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
C shoots in and drives through. Albert sprawls well.
Albert tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Some wild striking there from Albert.
Albert throws a right and a left that both miss.
C is looking to land body kicks.
C throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Albert counters with a nice double leg into side control. C won't be happy with that.
C is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
C wants to get back to his feet.
Albert not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Albert stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
C takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

C takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Albert lands with a thumping leg kick.
C takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Albert throws a head kick but C moves out of range.
C avoids the head kick by Albert.

C shoots in and bounces Albert off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Albert can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as C controls the pace.
Albert tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Albert might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Albert wants to stand but C is controlling the position.
C sitting in guard here, content to control.

Albert is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Frankie Albert overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Albert tries to land a sweep but no joy.
C wants to control from the top but Albert keeps moving.

Albert looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Albert throws a right and a left that C avoids nicely.
Albert connects with a solid leg kick.
C shoots in but Albert avoids the takedown attempt easily.
C shoots in but no luck this time.
Frankie Albert has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay C.
C doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Albert counters with a low kick, right behind C 's knee.

Albert throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

C is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Albert.
Albert looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
C chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Albert can pounce on him.

and Albert counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
C wants to stand but Albert is controlling the position.
C is trying to keep Albert in close.
C looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Albert puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

C is trying to control but can't.

Albert decides to return to a standing position.
C goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Frankie Albert has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
C connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.


Albert is rocked!
C tries for a takedown but Albert sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Oh Albert is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

C fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Albert, pushing him back against the cage.
Albert seems to have got his legs back now.

C pulls guard.
C looking for a sweep. Not yet C, not yet.
Albert is in close to C's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Albert pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. C is keeping the position for now.
Albert loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
C is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Albert gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
C controlling from the top position.
Albert will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Albert is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst C is controlling him.

C decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Albert shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Albert showed some decent athleticism there.
C moves into full guard.
C is trying to keep Albert in close.
Albert prevents C from getting back to his feet.

C pushes Albert off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

C changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Albert tries to avoid it but C manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Albert to the ground. Albert escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
C throws a right and a left that Albert avoids nicely.
C swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Albert goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Albert tries to clinch there but C circles away.
Albert takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Albert throws a sloppy head kick and C moves out of range easily.
Albert misses with a few strikes there.
C slips a jab and a cross from Albert.
Albert moves in looking to clinch but C pushes him off.
C tries to clinch there but Albert circles away.
Albert avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Frankie Albert is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Albert connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between C's hands.
C lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Albert throws and low kick but C moves out of range easily.

and C counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Albert scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Albert decides to take the fight back to the feet.
C lands a left and a right that sends Albert crashing to the canvas! C dives into mount looking to finish!
This has been an exciting period of action!
C controlling the position easily from mount.
Albert is working to get back to half guard.
C tries to control but Albert wriggling away.
Jay C has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
BOOM! C connects with a massive shot to the dome!

And that's the end of the fight!
Jay C comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Albert has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
