PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Puempel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tomek Gutzeit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gutzeit is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Sobota- Do gory leb. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Puempel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tomek Gutzeit!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gutzeit looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Gutzeit postures up.
Gutzeit looking to sit in guard and control but Puempel gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Puempel content to stall in guard here.
Gutzeit is controlling Puempel's posture.
Gutzeit wants to control but Puempel passes easily into half guard.
Gutzeit is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Puempel perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Gutzeit trying to control here.

Puempel decides to stand and escape the position.

Gutzeit closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Puempel is defending against the submission attempts here by Gutzeit.
Gutzeit missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Gutzeit sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Puempel defending well though.

Gutzeit is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Puempel doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gutzeit.

Gutzeit is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Puempel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Gutzeit looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Puempel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gutzeit on the ground.

Gutzeit is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Gutzeit is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Puempel defends it well.

Gutzeit seems to be working for a kimura but Puempel defends the submission attempt.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Puempel slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tomek Gutzeit dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Gutzeit closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Puempel did well to prevent Gutzeit getting side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gutzeit wants to pass to mount but Puempel is defending the position.

Gutzeit is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Puempel has managed to free his arm - good work.

Gutzeit is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Puempel is just riding it out for now. Gutzeit eventually gives up the hold.

Puempel has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gutzeit is working away from the top position though.

Gutzeit maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Puempel could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Gutzeit has cracked it and Puempel is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Gutzeit!

In his post fight interview, Tomek Gutzeit started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
