PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Austin Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paolo Estema (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Patterson might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEpDiHNoSkw. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Lou da Vinci and Alyssa Summers.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson throws a sloppy head kick and Estema moves out of range easily.

Estema closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Estema lands in his opponent's guard.
Estema advances to half guard.
Patterson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Estema on the ground.
Still in half guard, Estema seems content to control.
Estema frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Patterson is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Let's hope that Estema has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Estema throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Patterson because Estema loaded up on that one.
Patterson is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Estema has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Patterson's face.

Estema looking to ground and pound but Patterson is blocking nicely.
Estema sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Patterson's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Estema content just to control the position here.
Patterson avoids a series of strikes thrown by Estema.
Estema scores with a couple of good head shots there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Patterson gets caught napping as Estema dives in and scores a takedown. Patterson manages to retain guard.

Estema slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Patterson wants to get back to striking at distance but Estema won't allow it.

Estema keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Patterson's efforts to push away.
Estema has Patterson pressed against the cage, preventing Patterson from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Estema turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Estema manages to end up in side control.
Estema tries to advance to mount but Patterson denies him.
Patterson is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Paolo Estema has got the better of the ground game so far.

Estema connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Patterson some visible discomfort.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Estema is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Patterson will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Paolo Estema.

Patterson escapes and gets back to his feet.

Estema is trying hard to land a takedown here. Patterson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Patterson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Patterson showed some decent athleticism there.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Patterson wants to stand up but Estema has a hold of him and won't allow it.

A close second round but Paolo Estema will probably get the nod - 10:9.
