Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Calzaghe!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Dave Lee!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee doesn't manage to clinch there - Calzaghe circles away.
Calzaghe misses with a few strikes there.
Lee darts in trying to clinch
and Calzaghe counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Lee thinking.
Lee looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Calzaghe is fending him off so far but Lee persists. Nope, Calzaghe circles away and we're back to standing.
Calzaghe really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Lee moves into the clinch successfully.
Calzaghe blocks an uppercut.
Calzaghe is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Lee is defending well.
Still in the clinch, Lee scores with a nice short uppercut.
Lee tries a knee to the head but Calzaghe blocks it.
Lee misses with a short punch on the inside.
Lee tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Calzaghe avoids it.
Calzaghe drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lee pulls his leg out and moves away.
Calzaghe keeps the fight on the outside.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lee is looking to clinch.

Lee decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Calzaghe is trying to get back to full guard.

Calzaghe looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Lee is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Lee is keen to just control but Calzaghe is a slippery customer.
Calzaghe wants to improve his position but Lee is controlling well.

Calzaghe looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Lee looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Calzaghe with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Calzaghe is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lee trying to stand up but can't free himself from Calzaghe's guard.
Lee distracts Calzaghe with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Calzaghe wants to get back to his feet but Lee is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Lee trying to control the position from guard on top but Calzaghe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Calzaghe avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Calzaghe escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lee gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Lee trying to control the position from guard on top but Calzaghe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lee lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Calzaghe is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Lee has his hands clasped together but Calzaghe extends an breaks Lee's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Calzaghe.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joe Calzaghe!

Joe Calzaghe decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
