PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jones Crosby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Riker Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones Crosby looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jones Crosby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Riker Jones!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones staying out of range there.
Crosby throws a nice outside leg kick.

Jones looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Crosby!

Jones decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Crosby tries to stall but Jones uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Crosby paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Crosby swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Jones counters by clinching up.
Crosby goes for a takedown in the clinch but Jones prevents it.
Crosby is breathing heavily.
Crosby gets underhooks to prevent Jones's takedown attempt.
Jones is trying to pull guard but Crosby has him pressed against the cage.
Jones Crosby has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Riker Jones.
Crosby makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Jones pulls guard successfully.
Jones manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Crosby manages to get himself to full guard.
Crosby is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

It looks like Jones might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Riker Jones wasn't active enough on the ground.

Jones drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Crosby is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Jones has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Jones misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Crosby is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Jones is controlling him well.
Jones content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Jones looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

The referee asks Jones politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Jones prefers to stall for the moment though.

Jones thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones trying to control the action but Crosby is working from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Riker Jones hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Crosby moves into range and clinches up with Jones.

Crosby swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Crosby throws a jab but it's blocked by Jones.

and Jones counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Jones fails in his attempt to clinch.

Jones Crosby is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Good exchange - Jones coming out on top.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick and Crosby moves out of range easily.
Jones Crosby seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones closes this distance looking for a takedown but Crosby circles away.
Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Crosby.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jones misses with a takedown attempt - Crosby sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jones has Crosby pressed against the cage, preventing Crosby from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Crosby tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Crosby is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Jones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Crosby swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Crosby lands a hook that snaps the head of Jones backwards.

Crosby scores with a nice hook to the head.
Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Crosby gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Crosby lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Crosby throws a punch but it's blocked by Jones.
Crosby lands a hook to the side of the head.
Jones lands a knee to the body.
Jones unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Jones jumps guard and drags Crosby to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Crosby won't allow Jones to sweep him here.

Jones is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Crosby makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Crosby throws a big elbow that misses.
Crosby postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Crosby passes Jones's left leg - he's now in half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones is looking to control Crosby's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jones avoid being mounted?

I would just about give that final round to Riker Jones.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
