PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Genghis Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alek Zimmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khan comes to the cage accompanied by Mongol. Zimmer has chosen Manowar - Warriors of the World as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Genghis Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alek Zimmer!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan walks into a left hand.
The fight stays on the outside here - Khan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Zimmer misses with a body shot.
Khan misses with a body shot.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Zimmer - that will leave a mark!
A swing and a miss from Zimmer.
Khan moves away from the strike by Zimmer.
Khan slips a jab and a cross from Zimmer.
Khan misses with a hook.
Zimmer dips to his left and cracks Khan with an uppercut!
Khan wants to clinch up but Zimmer keeps it at a distance.
Khan misses with an uppercut.
Zimmer throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Khan moves into range and connects with a jab.


It looks like Alek Zimmer has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Khan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Khan is looking to clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zimmer lands a nice shot that snaps Khan's head back.
Zimmer shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Khan misses the shot to the body.

Zimmer bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Zimmer tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Zimmer has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Zimmer wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Khan, who protects the arm well.
Zimmer trying to control the position but Khan is working away.
Khan gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Zimmer trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Zimmer might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Khan kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Zimmer swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Khan is now in Zimmer's guard. A big mistake from Zimmer there, giving up the dominant position!

Khan avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Khan lands a couple of digs.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Zimmer looking for a guillotine here but Khan defends easily.
Zimmer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan throwing strikes but missing.
Khan wants to control from the top but Zimmer keeps moving.
Khan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Khan landing some decent shots from guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Zimmer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Khan defends it easily.

Zimmer has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Khan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Zimmer is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Khan defends well.
Khan lands a couple of elbows.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Khan with a flurry of punches that miss.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Khan trying to control but Zimmer is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alek Zimmer dominated that round.

That's time! Back to the action!


Zimmer jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Khan ducks under a wild hook from Zimmer.
Khan walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Khan misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Khan just misses with a punch to the body.

Zimmer dives in and scores a takedown into Khan's guard.
Zimmer sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Khan's guard.
Zimmer trying to control from Khan's half guard. Khan has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Khan looking for a triangle here. Zimmer is fighting it but it looks tight! Khan pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Zimmer is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Genghis Khan!
Genghis Khan gave a mention to Valhalla Q160 Nutrition in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
