Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Musta Surma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Milo Papi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Papi has chosen IZ ON as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Musta Surma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Milo Papi!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Papi gets cracked there but stands up to it.


It looks like Milo Papi has been cut.
Surma takes a swing at Papi's ribcage but misses.
Papi scores with a nice head shot.
Donk. Papi catches Surma right on the button with a cross.
Papi thuds a left hand into Surma's body.
A slow jab from Papi misses its intended target.
Papi lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Papi scores with a jab to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Surma misses with a wild body shot.
Papi moves out of range as Surma strikes.
Surma ducks right into an uppercut from Papi.
Papi lands with a straight right. Surma didn't see that one coming.
Papi shoots for a double leg takedown but Surma sprawls well. He's pushed Papi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Milo Papi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Papi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Surma is fending him off so far but Papi persists. Nope, Surma circles away and we're back to standing.
Surma takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Papi shoots in for a takedown but Surma shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Musta Surma has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Milo Papi.

Papi fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Surma manages to avoid it.

Papi gets tackled into the cage by Surma. Surma maintains the clinch.
Papi drops down looking for an ankle pick but Surma pulls his leg out and moves away.

Papi throws a shot from downtown. Surma moves away and avoids it.

Surma throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Papi walks into a straight right hand from Surma.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Surma uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Papi.
Papi lands the left hand.
Surma bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Surma misses with a series of wild punches.
Papi lands with a good body shot.
Surma takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Surma throws a right hand that Papi ducks under and follows up with a left that Papi also avoids with ease.

Papi looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Surma!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Papi lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Surma down.

Papi throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Surma works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Papi throws a big right hand that misses.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Surma wants to stand up but Papi is controlling him.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Papi is looking to land body kicks.
Papi shoots in looking for a takedown. Surma tries to sprawl out of it but Papi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Surma manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Papi lands with a straight right. Surma didn't see that one coming.
Papi is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Surma.
Surma misses with a body kick.
Surma lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Papi throws a left and a right that both miss

and Surma moves into the clinch.

Papi doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Papi has Surma pressed against the cage, preventing Surma from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Surma breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Surma fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Papi on the side of the head.
Papi works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Surma misses with a hook to the body

and Papi counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Papi is trying to control the action in half guard but Surma is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Papi tries to pass to full mount but Surma defends it.
Papi is just content to waste time from the top position. Surma takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Papi wants to control from the top but Surma keeps moving.
Papi trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Papi is looking to work some ground and pound but Surma has wrist control.
Papi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Surma swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Surma preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Surma wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Papi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Papi trying to control the position from guard on top but Surma is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Papi shoots in but Surma avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Papi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Musta Surma has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Milo Papi.

Surma is looking for a sweep.
Milo Papi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Papi fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Papi misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Papi throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
You can see the frustration on Surma's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's time! Surma's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Papi goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A punch lands to the side of Surma 's head but he takes it in his stride.
A big left from Surma misses.
Papi connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Surma's hands.
Papi lands a front kick.
Surma tries to clinch up but Papi circles away and keeps his distance.
Surma keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Surma looks to score with a jab to the body but Papi is just out of range.
Surma stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Surma wants it to stay on the feet.
Papi tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Surma ducks right into an uppercut from Papi.

Papi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Surma looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Papi remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Milo Papi hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Papi.
Papi closes the distance and clinches up with Surma, looking for a takedown. Papi pushes Surma against the cage but Surma circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Surma ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Papi moves away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Surma feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Papis jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Papi throws a sloppy head kick and Surma moves out of range easily.
Musta Surma has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Papi cracks Surma with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Surma with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Papi to score with a decent uppercut.
Musta Surma is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Papi scores with a jab to the body.
Surma tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Papi manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Surma needs to keep his hands up - Papi had a free shot at his head there.
Papi goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Surma blocks the body kick.
Papi tries to land a front kick but Surma steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Papi connects with a good right hand that stumbles Surma. Surma circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
Milo Papi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Papi winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
