PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Demarco Payne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fuego Silveti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Payne comes into the arena with California Love by Tupac and Dr Dre blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Demarco Payne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fuego Silveti!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Payne tries to bum rush Silveti with a series of wild strikes but Silveti uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Payne darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Payne wants to stand up but Silveti has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Payne stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Silveti to get to his feet.

Payne gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Silveti breaks the clinch.
Payne works over Silveti's head and body with a nice combination.
Payne lands a right hook to the body.
Silveti needs to keep his hands up - Payne had a free shot at his head there.

Payne closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Silveti pushes Payne away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Payne gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Silveti regains half guard.
Payne seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Silveti is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Payne pulls his head out easily.
Payne thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Payne will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Silveti keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Payne seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Silveti is looking for a sweep. Payne is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Silveti shoots and misses

and Payne counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Payne has had enough of the clinch but Silveti keeps him there for the moment.
Silveti is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Silveti breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Silveti has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Payne avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Demarco Payne has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fuego Silveti.
Silveti lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Payne.

Silveti ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Silveti no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Payne in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Payne decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Silveti walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Payne lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Silveti slips a jab and a cross from Payne.
Silveti doesn't manage to clinch there - Payne circles away.

A clash of legs there as Silveti blocks the low kick.
Silveti avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
An inside leg kick from Silveti misses.
Silveti tries to land a body kick

and Payne counters by moving into the clinch.

Silveti breaks from the clinch.
Silveti tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Payne throws a combination. Silveti tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Payne tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silveti swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Payne misses with a double jab.
A punch combination from Payne misses.
Payne moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Payne pushes Silveti up against the cage in a clinch.
Silveti tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Silveti has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Payne uses from the top position.
Payne would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Payne throwing strikes from guard but Silveti blocks nicely.

Payne stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Payne tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Silveti walks into a stiff left hand from Payne.
Payne is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

and Payne counters with a series of strikes. Silveti will be more careful next time no doubt.

Payne throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Silveti gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Payne moves into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Demarco Payne dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Payne counters with a good low kick that Silveti was not able to check.
The fight stays on the outside here - Payne looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Payne just misses with a elbow thrown towards Silveti's brow.

Payne breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Payne fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Silveti on the side of the head.
Payne swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Silveti holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Payne wants to break the clinch but can't.
Payne tries to break the clinch but Silveti is controlling the position.

Silveti pulls guard.

Silveti is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Payne has his hands clasped together but Silveti extends an breaks Payne's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Silveti.
