PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jones Crosby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Khalid Walid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crosby fails with a takedown attempt.
Crosby tries to clinch but Walid moves out of range.

Crosby throws an overhand right that lands on Walid's shoulder, as Walid tries to avoid the shot.

and Walid counters with a left to the body.

and Walid counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Walid dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Walid shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Crosby eats them both and turns towards Walid to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Jones Crosby seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Walid shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Crosby eats them both and turns towards Walid to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Walid lands a nice hook to Crosby's body. Crosby takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Walid is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Walid lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Crosby takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Walid lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Crosby circles away quickly and effectively.
Crosby looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Crosby might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.

Crosby is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Walid's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Crosby doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Crosby tries for a takedown but Walid sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jones Crosby. That's going to take a lot out of him.

We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Walid in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Crosby pushes off an throws an elbow but Walid leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Crosby keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Walid's efforts to push away.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
