PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kimble Gamble (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gamble comes into the arena with Manowar - Kill With Power blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Smith jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Smith scores with a decent looking hook.
Nice takedown defense from Smith. No joy for Gamble on that attempt.

Smith sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Gamble to the ground! Smith dives into full mount looking to finish!

Gamble is rocked!

It looks like Kimble Gamble has been cut.
Smith prevents Gamble from getting the reversal.
Oh Gamble is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Smith is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Gamble has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Gamble!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Smith is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Gamble seems to have got his legs back now.

Gamble has control of Smith's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Smith regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Smith is bucking up trying to escape but Gamble cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Gamble looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Smith tries to hold on but Gamble pushes him away.

Smith tries to control Gamble's body but Gamble pushes him off. Smith squirms to his side and now Gamble has his back!
Gamble is trying to stick to Smith's back but Smith is turning into Gamble. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Gamble's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Smith.

Gamble escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Smith passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Smith decides to stand back up. Smith steps back and let's Gamble get back to his feet.
Smith lands with a kick to the temple. Gamble shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
A solid leg kick lands there for Smith.
Smith throws a head kick that misses.
John Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
No joy there for Gamble, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gamble tries to work over Smith's front leg with a kick but Smith checks it.
John Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Smith connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Gamble is breathing heavily.
Smith lands a front kick.

A big head kick from Smith and Gamble is sent sprawling to the canvas!
Smith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Gamble is proving hard to escape from.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth.

Smith is trying to stand up here but Gamble is controlling him well.
Gamble is looking to stall here but Smith recovers full guard.
Gamble wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

Gamble postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Smith is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gamble, into his guard.
Smith is looking to work some ground and pound but Gamble has wrist control.
Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Smith stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Smith.

Smith throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Gamble stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Smith follows into mount!

Gamble is squirming around, avoiding Smith's attempts to control the action.

Gamble wants to control but Smith is having none of it.
Gamble gets back to half guard.
Gamble wants to get back to full guard.
Gamble is holding on to half guard well.
Smith tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Gamble looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smith is fending him off so far but Gamble persists. Nope, Smith circles away and we're back to standing.

Gamble changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Smith tries to avoid it but Gamble manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smith to the ground. Smith escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Smith lands a high kick to the side of Gamble's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Smith dives into guard, looking to finish.

Gamble utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Smith wants to control from the top but Gamble keeps moving.
Smith wants to stand and escape but instead Gamble has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Smith thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smith manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gamble manages to get himself to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith trying to stand up but can't free himself from Gamble's guard.

Smith wants to get up but he can't break Gamble's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Smith thows a big elbow that misses.

Smith decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Kimble Gamble is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smith throws a good cross that connects.

Ouch! a nice leg kick from Smith, right into the meat.
Gamble takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
A left and a right from Smith both land. Nice combination.
Smith throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Gamble.

Kimble Gamble's cut is getting worse.
Gamble closes this distance looking for a takedown but Smith circles away.
Smith ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Gamble has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Whack! Smith lands a heavy head kick that drops Gamble. The ref tackles Smith to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Gamble was done.
