Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Barry Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamison Freidrichs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Barry Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jamison Freidrichs!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Freidrichs is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Williams.
Williams misses with a takedown attempt

and Freidrichs counters with a shoot takedown. Williams fights it but they end up in guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Freidrichs trying to control the position from guard on top but Williams is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Freidrichs throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Williams works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Freidrichs trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom.
Freidrichs might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Williams kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Freidrichs stands up over Williams, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Freidrichs trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom.
Freidrichs must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Freidrichs is looking for a kimura but Williams is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Freidrichs to get the leverage.

Williams is trying to stand up here but Freidrichs is controlling him well.

Freidrichs seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Williams does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Freidrichs is nestled in close to Williams, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Freidrichs is trying to control. Williams wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Williams wants to get back to full guard.

Freidrichs thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Williams's head.

Freidrichs looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

This has been an exciting period of action!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jamison Freidrichs dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Williams has a takedown stuffed.
Horrible takedown by Williams or perhaps it was just good defense by Freidrichs which made him look bad.
A slapping body kick lands there for Freidrichs.
Williams throws a nice looking combination but Freidrichs bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Freidrichs tries to close the distance and clinch up but Williams swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Some bone on bone action there as Freidrichs checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Williams gets caught napping as Freidrichs dives in and scores a takedown. Williams manages to retain guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Freidrichs accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Freidrichs content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Freidrichs throws a big right hand that misses.

Freidrichs drops back looking for a leg! Williams is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Williams manages to kick Freidrichs off! Freidrichs jumps back into Williams's guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Freidrichs lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Freidrichs thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Freidrichs thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Williams's head.
Freidrichs throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Freidrichs is trying to control. Williams wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Freidrichs lands a decent elbow from side control.
Williams avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Freidrichs.
Freidrichs in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Freidrichs scores with a couple of short elbows.

Freidrichs working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jamison Freidrichs showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Freidrichs closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Williams to the mat! Williams manages to get full guard.
Freidrichs working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Freidrichs looking to sit in guard and control but Williams gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Freidrichs is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Williams gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Freidrichs.
Freidrichs changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Williams fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Freidrichs has Williams pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Williams manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Barry Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jamison Freidrichs.

Williams is fighting off a takedown attempt but Freidrichs is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Williams to the mat. Williams regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Freidrichs's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Freidrichs has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Freidrichs distracts Williams with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Freidrichs wants to pass the guard but Williams is keeping the position.
Freidrichs postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Jamison Freidrichs is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Freidrichs is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Freidrichs stands and throws Williams's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Williams tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Freidrichs controls the position.
Williams manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Freidrichs in particular looking to stall.
Freidrichs uses his free foot to push down on Williams's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Williams.

Freidrichs controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jamison Freidrichs wasn't active enough on the ground.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I've got Freidrichs winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
