PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Parsons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Page (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Parsons comes to the cage accompanied by Call Me The Breeze. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Charlie Parsons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Greg Page!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Wagner Zegers and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parsons misses with an uppercut

and Page counters by clinching up.
Page stalling in the clinch.
Parsons pushes Page back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Parsons tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
A nice left hand lands by Parsons.
Parsons lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Page backwards.
Parsons lands a shoulder strike.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Parsons.
Page trying to stall but Parsons improves his position.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Parsons.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Page blocks an uppercut.
Page is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Parsons to keep the fight standing.

Parsons manages to break the clinch.
Page ducks under a wild hook from Parsons.

Parsons shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Parsons was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Parsons lands a few punches from side control.

Parsons wants to take a breather but Page manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Parsons.

Parsons stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Page swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Parsons trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Parsons is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Parsons has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Page is on top in guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Page drops back looking for a leg! Parsons is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Parsons manages to kick Page off! Page jumps back into Parsons's guard.

Parsons is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Page drops back looking for a leg! Parsons is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Parsons manages to kick Page off! Page jumps back into Parsons's guard.
Page won't allow Parsons to sweep him here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Parsons is on top in guard.

Page lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Parsons!

Parsons is squirming around, avoiding Page's attempts to control the action.
Parsons is in a horrible position here. Page smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Parsons tries to hold on but Page postures up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Page wants to control the pace but Parsons is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Parsons buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Parsons lands with a cross.
Parsons throws a looping overhand right but Page ducks down to avoid it.
Parsons throws a leg kick
and Page counters with a right hand to the body.
Page on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Parsons misses with a right hand
and Parsons takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Parsons tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

A head punch blocked on the inside by Page.
Parsons misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Page.
Page's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Page jumps guard but Parsons turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Parsons tries to break the clinch but Page is controlling the position.
Parsons pushes off an throws an elbow but Page leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Parsons unloads a knee to the mid-section. Page lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Parsons throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Page blocks it with crossed arms.

Page manages to pull guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Parsons postures up in Page's guard and throws a big left but Page blocks it.
Parsons trying to control but Page is working from the bottom.
Parsons trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Parsons is in close to Page's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Page looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Page looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Parsons looking to sit in guard and control but Page gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Page pushing down on Parsons's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Page is trying to control the action in half guard but Parsons is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Parsons looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Page pushes past his half guard into mount!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Page is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Parsons has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Parsons is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Page's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Page's back!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That was a close second round but I would say that Charlie Parsons will probably get the nod.
That's time! Parsons's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Parsons swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Parsons avoids the head kick by Page.
Parsons throws a lazy uppercut
and Page counters with a nice body shot.
Parsons uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Page has time to react.
Parsons lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Page has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Parsons finds it's way round the side to connect with Page's head.

Parsons looks to land a left hand but Page moved out of range nicely.

No joy there for Parsons, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Parsons throws a shot from downtown. Page moves away and avoids it.

Parsons shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Page throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Parsons stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Parsons attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

and Page makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Parsons tries to break the clinch but Page is controlling the position.
Parsons is trying to force a seperation but Page has the dominant position.
Parsons is looking to break free of the clinch but Page has double underhooks.
Parsons misses with an elbow over the top.
Page is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Page blocks an uppercut.
Page is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Parsons to keep the fight standing.
Parsons is trying to drag Page to the mat but Page just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Page.
Parsons is trying to break free.
Parsons using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Page has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Parsons is looking for a takedown.

Page is trying to trip Parsons. He has hold of a leg but Parsons is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Page persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Page postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Page scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Parsons is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Page seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Parsons looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Page chips away with some ground and pound.
Parsons keeping moving, preventing Page from controlling successfully.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Greg Page hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Parsons throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Page slips a jab and a cross from Parsons.
Page jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Page fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Parsons on the side of the head.
Parsons is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Page.
A head kick misses from Parsons.
A big left from Parsons misses.
Jab, jab by Page - just one landing.
Greg Page has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Charlie Parsons is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Page lands with a hook. Parsons tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Charlie Parsons.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Parsons, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Charlie Parsons really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that STEEL PENN'S 160 OF STEEL $50 Hilo logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
