PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rigels Ceri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Ceri might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Roy Jones - Go hard. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rigels Ceri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Davis!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ceri avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ceri throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Davis counters with a solid body kick.
Davis keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Ceri.
Ceri misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ceri falls off balance throwing a combination
and Ceri takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Ceri misses with a few strikes there.
Ceri throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Davis's waist but Davis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ceri off to one side.
Ceri looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Ceri scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Ceri lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like John Davis has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ceri swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Davis darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Davis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ceri is breathing heavily.
Davis is trying to control the action in half guard but Ceri is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Davis tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Davis decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Ceri tries to keep at a distance but Davis has taken the fight into the clinch.

Davis breaks from the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Davis.
Rigels Ceri seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Davis lands with a kick to the temple. Ceri shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Ceri throws a right and a left that Davis avoids nicely.

Davis dives in and scores a takedown into Ceri's guard.

Davis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ceri has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Davis.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ceri enables Davis to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ceri manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Davis wants to stand but Ceri is controlling his posture from full guard.
Davis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ceri works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Davis missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Davis stands up from Ceri's guard - Davis perhaps looking for a knockout.

Ceri tries to keep at a distance but Davis has taken the fight into the clinch.
Davis connects with a nasty looking knee right to Ceri's face.

Davis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Davis lands with a kick to the temple. Ceri shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Davis has Ceri up against the cage in a clinch.
Davis lands an elbow inside.
Ceri prevents a takedown attempt there.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Davis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Davis throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Ceri.

Ceri gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Davis slips nicely into half guard.
Davis content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Davis trying to pass the guard but Ceri defending well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Davis dominated that round.
The cut man is working on John Davis's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Davis throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Ceri attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Ceri throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Ceri misses with a double jab

and Davis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ceri's guard.
Davis is working Ceri over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Davis stands up from Ceri's guard - Davis perhaps looking for a knockout.
Ceri throws a head kick that misses
and Davis counters with a body kick that stops Ceri in his tracks momentarily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ceri falls off balance throwing a combination
and Davis counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Davis scores with a kick to the midsection.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Davis scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Davis has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Rigels Ceri is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ceri fails with a takedown attempt.
Davis throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Davis lands with a slapping head kick.
Ceri fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Davis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ceri did well to prevent Davis getting side control.

Davis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Davis stands up and beckons Ceri to join him on the feet.
Davis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ceri sprawls well. Ceri wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Davis gets slowly back to his feet.

Ceri shoots and misses
and Davis counters with a big head kick but Ceri shrugs it off.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rigels Ceri. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Davis tries to clinch up but Ceri circles away and keeps his distance.
Davis throws a quick inside leg kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ceri misses with an uppercut
and Davis counters with a head kick. That will keep Ceri thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Ceri takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Davis tries to clinch but Ceri moves out of range.
Ceri takes a kick to the side of the head.
Davis lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Davis lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Davis throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Davis wants to clinch up but Ceri keeps it at a distance.

Davis closes the distance and clinches.

Davis manages to pull guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Davis lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Ceri!
Ceri is looking to improve his position but Davis isn't that keen on the idea.
Davis lands with some strikes.
Davis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Davis working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Davis controlling the position easily from mount.

Davis is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Ceri to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ceri shrugs it off.

BOOM! Davis connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Davis is working for a guillotine from mount but Ceri frees his head quite easily.
Davis wants to control the pace but Ceri is squirming around nicely.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Davis in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Davis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Davis tries to clinch but Ceri is having none of it.
Davis looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Davis connects with a body shot that sends Ceri's belly button to the back.
Davis scores with a spinning back kick!
Ceri throws a right and a left that both miss.
Ceri uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Davis.
Ceri misses with a left hand
and Davis counters with a body kick that stops Ceri in his tracks momentarily.
Ceri throws a right hand that Davis ducks under and follows up with a left that Davis also avoids with ease.
Ceri looks to land a combination but Davis avoids it well.
A nice leg kick lands there from Davis.

Davis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Davis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ceri keeps working.

Davis has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ceri swats away the attempt to clinch by Davis.

Davis shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ceri is trying to defend but Davis finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Davis working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Davis postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Ceri to stand up.
Ceri takes one on the button.
Davis connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Davis delivers a nice body kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davis scores with the left hand. Ceri knows he should have avoided that one.

Davis changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ceri looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
You can see the frustration on Ceri's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Ceri takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Davis is looking to take a break and control but Ceri is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Davis grinds an elbow into Ceri's temple.

Ceri is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Davis asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Ceri tries to bench press Davis off him but Davis keeps the position.

Davis tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Davis has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Davis throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Davis cracks Ceri with a big right hand but Ceri just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Davis slows the pace down.
Ceri managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Davis.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ceri dodges the ground and pound from Davis.
Rigels Ceri has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Davis lands some shots froms side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Davis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Davis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
