PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Insual Renga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Javier Bardem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Javier Bardem was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Insual Renga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Javier Bardem!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Renga.
Renga keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Renga drops Bardem with a right and a left! Renga comes rushing in but Bardem regains his composure and manages to keep Renga in guard.


Bardem is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Renga wanted to stand there but Bardem had control of the position.
Bardem is still in real trouble! Can Renga finish him?
Renga with a flurry of punches that miss.
Bardem looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Renga has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bardem is proving hard to escape from.
Renga passes into half guard.

Renga is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bardem defends it well.
Bardem wants to control but Renga is keeping busy.

Renga wants to work for an arm triangle but Bardem is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Renga is looking for submissions but instead, Bardem has regained full guard.
Bardem seems to have recovered his senses.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Renga accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Renga wants to get up but he can't break Bardem's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bardem preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Bardem pulls Renga in close to prevent any damage.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bardem is on top in guard.

Renga escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bardem gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bardem stays in close to Renga's body and controls the position.

Renga has his foot on Bardem's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bardem works his way back into a safe position though.
Renga is breathing heavily.

Renga has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bardem is working Renga over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Bardem stays in close to Renga's body and controls the position.

Bardem cracks Renga with a solid left hand.
Renga keeping moving, preventing Bardem from controlling successfully.

Renga is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bardem tries to free his leg and advance position but Renga is retaining full guard.
Bardem wants to control from the top but Renga keeps moving.

Bardem stands and steps away. Renga gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Insual Renga seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bardem falls off balance throwing a combination
and Renga counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Bardem drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Bardem must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Renga had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bardem defends it easily.

Bardem stands up from Renga's guard - Bardem perhaps looking for a knockout.

Bardem instigates a clinch.

Bardem manages to break the clinch.
Bardem throws a combination that misses
and Renga cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

A looping hook to the body misses from Bardem. Renga does a little dance to reset his feet.
Bardem misses with a few strikes there.
Renga connects with a good right hand that stumbles Bardem. Bardem circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Bardem gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Renga is trying to pull guard but Bardem turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Bardem ducks under a wild hook from Renga.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Bardem slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bardem throws a right hand that Renga ducks under and follows up with a left that Renga also avoids with ease.
Insual Renga is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Renga slips a jab and a cross from Bardem.
Bardem takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Insual Renga dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Bardem throws a head kick but Renga moves out of range.
Renga ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Renga lands with a hook. Bardem tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Bardem shoots in and gets a takedown into Renga's guard.

Renga has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bardem can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Renga working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bardem doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bardem manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bardem wants to control from the top but Renga keeps moving.

Renga escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bardem gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bardem is stalling in the full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Renga looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bardem lands a couple of digs.
Bardem wants to control from the top but Renga keeps moving.

Bardem avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Bardem is working Renga over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Insual Renga overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bardem passes into half guard.

Bardem is trying to work for a kimura but Renga is defending well.

Bardem is trying to control the action in half guard but Renga is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Renga is looking to improve his position but Bardem isn't that keen on the idea.

Renga is squirming around, avoiding Bardem's attempts to control the action.
Bardem takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Bardem stands up from mount. Strange move.
Renga connects with a crisp jab.

Bardem shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bardem is taking a breather. Renga says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Javier Bardem will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Bardem shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Bardem was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Bardem pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Bardem manages to capitalize on a mistake by Renga to take his back!
Bardem really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Renga. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bardem takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Renga turns into Bardem and is now in his guard.
Renga trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Renga wants to stand but Bardem has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Renga passes Bardem's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Renga has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Bardem works to full guard.

Bardem wriggles free and stands up.

Bardem shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bardem showed some decent athleticism there.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Bardem working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Renga moves into full guard.

Renga working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bardem doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Renga is tightening it up a little... Bardem has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Bardem reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Bardem taps out! Nice BJJ there by Renga!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Insual Renga!
