PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gin Juice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Branko Butic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Butic is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Groove Addicts- Wages of Sin. On his way into the cage it seems that Gin Juice has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Gin Juice seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gin Juice!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Branko Butic!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Butic darts in trying to clinch
and Juice finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Juice avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Juice moves into the clinch.
Butic is trying to break the clinch but Juice has him pressed against the cage.
Butic tries to break free but Juice pushes him back against the cage.
Butic wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Juice has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Butic avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Juice escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Juice tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Juice comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

so Butic counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Juice looking for a guillotine here but Butic defends easily.
Juice bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Butic's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Juice is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Juice drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Juice jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Juice stands and throws Butic's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Juice tries to move into full mount but can't pass Butic's legs.

Juice decides to stand up, so the ref orders Butic to his feet.
Juice fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gin Juice. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Butic tries to close the distance and clinch but Juice swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Juice rushes Butic and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Juice tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Butic smiles and moves away.

Butic tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Juice manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Horrible takedown by Juice or perhaps it was just good defense by Butic which made him look bad.
Butic dives in and grabs Juice's left leg, looking for a takedown. Juice pushes down on Butic's head and hops out.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Juice will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Butic looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Juice is fending him off so far but Butic persists. Nope, Juice circles away and we're back to standing.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Butic is pushing down on Juice's leg trying to pass to half guard. Juice is fighting to maintain full guard but Butic has managed to sneak the leg through.

Gin Juice overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gin Juice will probably get the nod.

Juice tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Butic smiles and moves away.

Butic closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Juice's guard.

Butic got a little sloppy there for a moment and Juice has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Butic has managed to get both his arms back between Juice's legs - danger averted.

Juice shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Butic as he jumps to the side.

Juice drags the fight down to the ground.
Butic stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Juice swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Juice has his foot on Butic's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Butic works his way back into a safe position though.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gin Juice.
Well Juice has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
