PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steffan Bonnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steffan Bonnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Stevens!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevens misses with a low kick as Bonnar jumps back.
Bonnar throws a leg kick but Stevens checks it.
Stevens attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Stevens connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Bonnar momentarily.

Stevens moves into the clinch.
Stevens landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Bonnar breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Bonnar throws a head kick that misses.
Stevens scores with the left hand. Bonnar knows he should have avoided that one.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Stevens avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bonnar fails with an attempt to clinch.

Stevens rushes Bonnar and presses him up against the cage.
Stevens looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Bonnar wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Stevens pulls guard effortlessly.
Stevens controls Bonnar momentarily but Bonnar frees himself.
Bonnar throwing strikes but missing.

Bonnar wants to control from the top but Stevens keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bonnar tries to stand but Stevens is controlling from the bottom.

Stevens has his foot on Bonnar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bonnar works his way back into a safe position though.
Bonnar wants to get up but he can't break Stevens's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Stevens pulls Bonnar in to control the position.
Bonnar lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Stevens is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Stevens is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mike Stevens.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Stevens, as that shot connected.
Bonnar uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Stevens.
Stevens shoots in looking for a takedown but Bonnar manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Stevens's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bonnar moves in looking to clinch but Stevens pushes him off.
Stevens misses with a low kick.
Stevens lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stevens wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Stevens takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Stevens lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Stevens leaves Bonnar with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Stevens avoids the head kick by Bonnar.

Bonnar throws a body kick that misses
enabling Stevens to counter with a crisp jab.

Bonnar gets tackled into the cage by Stevens. Stevens maintains the clinch.
Bonnar is trying to pull guard but Stevens turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Stevens breaks from the clinch.
Bonnar throws a chopping leg kick but Stevens manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Stevens swats away the attempt to clinch by Bonnar.
Stevens fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Bonnar showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Stevens.
Bonnar misses with a jab, cross combination.
Bonnar fails in his attempt to clinch.
Stevens shoots in and drives through. Bonnar sprawls well.
Steffan Bonnar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Stevens.
Stevens lands with a shot to the body.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bonnar checks the leg kick nicely there.
A nice combination there by Stevens.
Bonnar connects with a nice looking jab.
Stevens lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Bonnar throws a right and a left that Stevens avoids nicely.
Bonnar is breathing heavily.

Stevens throws a left that rocks Bonnar and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Stevens dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Bonnar regain composure!

It looks like Steffan Bonnar has been cut.
Stevens prevents Bonnar from escaping the position.
Stevens staying calm.

Stevens tries for a kimura but Bonnar is defending well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Stevens lands a nice forearm strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Stevens dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Steffan Bonnar's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Nice uppercut lands for Stevens. That snapped Bonnar's head back.
Bonnar misses with a hook.
Stevens throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Bonnar stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Stevens scores with a nice right hand.

Bonnar moves into the clinch successfully.
Bonnar keeps control of Stevens as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Stevens is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Bonnar is defending well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bonnar is trying to drag Stevens to the mat but Stevens just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Stevens has clasped his hands together around Bonnar's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Stevens gets to mount! Bonnar was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Stevens looking to control but Bonnar is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Stevens is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Bonnar can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Bonnar is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bonnar tries to buck Stevens off but he can't manage it.
Bonnar seems to have got his legs back now.

Bonnar is wriggling around trying to escape.
Stevens trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The referee warns Bonnar that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Stevens looking to finish Bonnar with some ground and pound. This is bad for Bonnar!

Stevens pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Stevens cracks Bonnar with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Stevens!
