Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Freaker Veenman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bret Jones!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Veenman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jones moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jones gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Veenman counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Jones!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Jones is trying to escape the mount.
Veenman controlling the pace for now.
Veenman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Jones tries to lock up and control but Veenman gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones regains half guard.
Jones is looking to control Veenman's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jones avoid being mounted?
Jones is trying to get back to full guard.
Veenman is keen to just control but Jones is a slippery customer.
Jones gets full guard.
Jones is trying to control the position but Veenman postures up.

Veenman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jones has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Veenman has managed to get both his arms back between Jones's legs - danger averted.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones has a closed guard, preventing Veenman from standing up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jones looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jones looking to hit a scissor sweep but Veenman is one step ahead there.

Jones is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Veenman defends well.
Jones looks winded!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Veenman has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jones is proving hard to escape from.
Jones tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Veenman slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Veenman from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Freaker Veenman wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Jones fails with a takedown attempt.
Veenman is looking to clinch.
Veenman closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.
Jones misses with a combination

and Veenman counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jones's guard now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Veenman looking to sit in guard and control but Jones gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Jones trying to control but Veenman is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bret Jones will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Veenman tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jones was well out of range. Poor timing from Veenman.
Jones stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jones wants it to stay on the feet.

Veenman has taken the fight to the clinch.

Veenman jumps guard and drags Jones to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Veenman wants to stand up but Jones is controlling him.
Jones preventing the sweep.
Jones passes Veenman's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Veenman is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Veenman wants to get back to full guard but Jones has mounted him!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jones is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Jones extends the arm and Veenman is forced to tap!
