PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joe Son (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Mclane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Mclane struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 186.9lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joe Son!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Mclane!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Son shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Mclane has his foot on Son's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Son works his way back into a safe position though.
Mclane lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Son!
Son tries to lock up and control but Mclane gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Mclane throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Mclane looking to finish with strikes here!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Son tries to hold on but Mclane pushes him away.
Mclane prevents Son from getting the reversal.

Mclane working for a submission but Son is keeping him at bay.
Son really wants to buck Mclane off and get back to his feet.

Mclane is working for a guillotine from mount but Son frees his head quite easily.
Son avoids a series of strikes thrown by Mclane.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mclane prevents Son from getting the reversal.
You get the feeling that Son really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Mclane jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Son manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Mclane working the ground and pound but Son is defending the strikes.
Mclane is looking to take a break and control but Son is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Son tries to buck Mclane off but Mclane is having none of it.

Mclane wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Son, who protects the arm well.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Son is trying to control Mclane's posture but Mclane avoids it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mclane thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mclane tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Son tries to bench press Mclane off him but Mclane keeps the position.
Son can't do much from the bottom here.

Mclane is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Son knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Son is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mclane asserts his dominance and retains side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mclane looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Mclane has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Son is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Mclane yanks on the arm and Son is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Mclane.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). John Mclane!
After the fight, John Mclane was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
