Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paul Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Denis Opal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 38 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Denis Opal!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good exchange - Opal coming out on top.
Thomas tries to score a power double leg takedown but Opal sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Thomas somewhat.
Opal is looking to clinch.
Thomas really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Thomas misses with a series of wild punches.
Opal tries to clinch but Thomas is having none of it.
Thomas has a takedown stuffed.
Thomas tries to clinch but Opal moves out of range.

Opal gets caught napping as Thomas dives in and scores a takedown. Opal manages to retain guard.

Opal scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Thomas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Opal tries to avoid it but Thomas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Opal to the ground. Opal escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Thomas. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Thomas throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Opal lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Opal closes this distance looking for a takedown but Thomas circles away.

Thomas tries to roll over but Opal keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Opal seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Thomas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Denis Opal has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Thomas is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Thomas misses with a wild combination.

Opal shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Thomas manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Denis Opal will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Opal counters with a stiff right hand.
Thomas lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Opal throws a head kick but Thomas moves out of range.
Thomas shoots in for a takedown but Opal shows good takedown defense.

Paul Thomas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Opal stuffs the takedown attempt from Thomas. Thomas gets slowly back to his feet.
Thomas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Opal as he jumps to the side.

Thomas is stalling here. Opal is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Thomas seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Opal has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Opal content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Opal decides to stand up, so the ref orders Thomas to his feet.
Opal moves out of range of the strikes.

Nice takedown defense from Opal. No joy for Thomas on that attempt.
Thomas stuns Opal with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Thomas wants to clinch.

Thomas gets tackled into the cage by Opal. Opal maintains the clinch.

Thomas breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Thomas misses with a two punch combination.
Opal is looking to clinch but Thomas is avoiding it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Thomas throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Thomas blocks a head kick by Opal.
Thomas shoots in for a double leg but Opal sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Thomas closes the distance looking to clinch
and Opal makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Opal shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Thomas counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Opal shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Thomas sprawls well. Thomas wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Opal gets slowly back to his feet.
Paul Thomas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Denis Opal.
Thomas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Opal's waist but Opal gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Thomas off to one side.

Thomas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Opal swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Opal blocks a body shot from Thomas.

Thomas's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Thomas gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Opal to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Opal wants to control from the top but Thomas keeps moving.
Opal stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thomas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Paul Thomas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Denis Opal wasn't active enough on the ground.
Opal moves in looking to clinch but Thomas pushes him off.

Thomas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Thomas stands and throws Opal's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Opal tries to close the distance and clinch but Thomas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Opal takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Opal throws a sloppy head kick and Thomas moves out of range easily.
Opal drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Paul Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Thomas tries to keep at a distance but Opal has taken the fight into the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Opal is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Opal manages to pull guard.
Thomas trying to control but Opal is working from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Opal looking for a sweep. Not yet Opal, not yet.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Paul Thomas.
I think Thomas has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
