PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Hogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrey Voronkoff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Voronkoff has chosen System of a Down-Aerials as his entrance music. Andrey Voronkoff is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Max Hogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrey Voronkoff!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Voronkoff stuffs the takedown.
Hogan shoots in but Voronkoff avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Hogan avoids the head kick by Voronkoff.
Hogan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Voronkoff tries to avoid it but Hogan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Voronkoff to the ground. Voronkoff escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Hogan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hogan shoots for a double leg takedown but Voronkoff sprawls well. He's pushed Hogan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hogan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Voronkoff counters with a stiff right hand.

Voronkoff closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hogan to the mat! Hogan manages to get full guard.
Voronkoff trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hogan's guard.
Hogan is breathing heavily.
Voronkoff works over Hogan with some ground and pound from guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Voronkoff has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hogan is proving hard to escape from.
Voronkoff trying to control but Hogan is working from the bottom.
Voronkoff seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hogan is looking to stand up but Voronkoff isn't so interested in that idea.
Hogan keeping moving, preventing Voronkoff from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Andrey Voronkoff.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Voronkoff.
Voronkoff lands a decent elbow from side control.
Voronkoff wants to stand but Hogan has his arm trapped.
Voronkoff trying to control the action but Hogan is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Voronkoff landing a few strikes.
Hogan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hogan tries to get out of the position.
Voronkoff tries to move into full mount but can't pass Hogan's legs.
Hogan is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hogan is looking to regain half guard here but Voronkoff keeps moving and retains side control.
Voronkoff tries to score with some ground and pound. Hogan controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hogan managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Voronkoff.

Voronkoff is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hogan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Voronkoff is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hogan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Voronkoff sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Hogan is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Hogan tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Voronkoff has hold of Hogan's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Hogan seems comfortable defending it but Voronkoff has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Hogan is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Hogan is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Voronkoff couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Andrey Voronkoff!
During a confident post fight interview, Andrey Voronkoff thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
