PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Masakatsu Funaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Igor Draco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Draco has chosen Harlem Shake as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The key to victory for Masakatsu Funaki has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masakatsu Funaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Igor Draco!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Funaki fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Draco sprawls well initially but Funaki persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Draco looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Funaki is looking for a kimura but Draco is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Funaki to get the leverage.
Draco is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Draco should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Funaki wants to free his trapped foot but Draco is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Funaki is looking for a kimura here.
Draco is pressing down on Funaki's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Draco has eaten all the pies!

Igor Draco is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Funaki closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Draco's guard.
Funaki stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Draco swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Draco working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Funaki doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Funaki manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Draco has his foot on Funaki's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Funaki works his way back into a safe position though.

Funaki is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Draco is just riding it out for now. Funaki eventually gives up the hold.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Funaki tries to clinch up but Draco circles away and keeps his distance.
Draco gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Funaki counters with a leg kick.
Funaki slaps away a takedown attempt from Draco, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Draco changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Funaki tries to avoid it but Draco manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Funaki to the ground. Funaki escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Masakatsu Funaki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Igor Draco.
Draco blocks a head kick by Funaki.
Funaki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Draco tries to avoid it but Funaki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Draco to the ground. Draco escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Draco enables Funaki to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Draco manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Draco tries to buck Funaki off but Funaki is having none of it.

Funaki has control of Draco's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Draco regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Draco is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Draco tries to lock up and control but Funaki gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Draco tries to hold on but Funaki postures up.
Funaki can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Draco is looking to escape.
Funaki is really struggling to control Draco but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Funaki is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Draco to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Draco shrugs it off.
Funaki moves to take his opponent's back.
Funaki doesn't have the hooks in and Draco manages to turn into his guard.
Draco trying to control the position from guard on top but Funaki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Funaki not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Draco postures up in Funaki's guard and throws a big left but Funaki blocks it.
Funaki is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well Funaki has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
