The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivera throws a lazy uppercut
and Almeida counters with a slapping leg kick.
Almeida on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Almeida wants to land a leg kick but Rivera is out of range.

Almeida closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Almeida wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rivera, who protects the arm well.

Almeida working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Almeida prevents Rivera from escaping the position.

Almeida tries for a kimura but Rivera is defending well.
Almeida is looking to take a break and control but Rivera is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Almeida thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Almeida is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rivera knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Almeida swings around for an armbar but Rivera sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Almeida's guard.

Almeida has his foot on Rivera's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rivera works his way back into a safe position though.
Rivera wants to stand but Almeida is controlling his posture from full guard.

Rivera has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Almeida to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Rivera is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Almeida pulls down on the head and he's put Rivera to sleep! This one is all over!
