Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gene Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Colton Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Colton Smith is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gene Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Colton Smith!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson tries for a takedown but Smith circles away easily
and Smith counters with a head kick.
Anderson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Anderson is defended easily by Smith.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gene Anderson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Anderson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smith, pushing him back against the cage.

Anderson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Anderson tries a head kick but it misses.
Smith has a takedown stuffed.
Smith keeps the fight on the outside.
Anderson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Anderson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Smith swivels and escapes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Anderson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smith pinned against the cage. Smith gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Smith displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Anderson.
Anderson keeps the fight on the outside.
Smith fails in his attempt to clinch.

Smith is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Anderson's half guard.
Anderson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though.

Smith is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Anderson is looking to control Smith's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Anderson avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well, if Smith is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Anderson tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.
Smith is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are battling for position here. Anderson manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Smith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Anderson is proving hard to escape from.
Smith connects with a couple of short punches.
Smith stops Anderson from standing up.
Anderson controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself.
Anderson is striking but Smith is not phased and passes to half guard.
Smith is taking a breather. Anderson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Anderson is staying active underneath Smith, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Anderson wants to control but Smith is keeping busy.
Anderson punching from the bottom.
Anderson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Anderson tries to get out of the position.
Anderson trying to control from the bottom.
Smith tries to pass to full mount but Anderson defends it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith doesn't manage to clinch there - Anderson circles away.

Smith gets the takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Anderson is looking for a sweep.
Anderson is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it.

Smith is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Anderson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Colton Smith dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Anderson swats away the attempt to clinch by Smith.
Smith stuffs the takedown.
No luck for Anderson with that takedown attempt.
Smith slaps away a takedown attempt from Anderson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gene Anderson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Anderson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smith pinned against the cage. Smith gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Smith closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Anderson quickly recovers to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Anderson looks like he's trying to stand up.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Anderson is defending well.
Anderson trying to control from the bottom.
Anderson is controlling Smith's trapped leg to prevent Smith from advancing to side control.
Smith looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Smith is looking for a kimura but Anderson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Smith to get the leverage.
Anderson wants to control but Smith is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith controlling the action here.
Let's hope that Smith has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Some wild striking there from Anderson.

Smith closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Smith tries to work over Anderson's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Anderson lands a body shot in the clinch.
Smith tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Anderson just stands there and leans against the cage.

Smith gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Anderson regains guard.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Anderson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Anderson is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Smith rolls with it to try and escape but Anderson cranks on the arm and Smith is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Gene Anderson!
