The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maynard scores with a one two! Gomez had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Maynard misses with a lunging right hand

and Gomez counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Maynard is trying to control the position but Gomez postures up.

Gomez drops back looking for a leg! Maynard is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Maynard manages to kick Gomez off! Gomez jumps back into Maynard's guard.

Gomez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Gomez passes into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
