The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gil tries to clinch up.

Gecevic has Gil pressed against the cage, preventing Gil from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Gil is trying to pull guard but Gecevic has him pressed against the cage.

Gecevic jumps guard and drags Gil to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Gecevic is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Gil is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Gecevic jumps into side control!

That was a close round but I would say that Seu Gil will probably get the nod.

Gil shoots in but Gecevic avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Gil has his foot on Gecevic's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gecevic works his way back into a safe position though.

Seu Gil has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Gil changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gecevic looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Gecevic is trying to escape the position but Gil is controlling the position.
Gil has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gil swings around for an armbar but Gecevic sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gil's guard.

Gil throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gecevic's waist but Gecevic gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gil off to one side.

Gecevic manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gil on his heels. He'll look to pass Gil's guard now, I'm sure.
