PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tom Brong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mac Damaar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tom Brong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mac Damaar!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brong tries to bum rush Damaar with a series of wild strikes but Damaar uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Damaar throws a right and a left that Brong avoids nicely.
Brong fails with a takedown attempt.

Brong gets tackled into the cage by Damaar. Damaar maintains the clinch.
Damaar wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Damaar digs a right hand into Brong's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Brong's gas tank.
Brong keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Damaar's efforts to push away.
A right handed body shot lands from Damaar.
Brong prevents Damaar from breaking the clinch.
Damaar lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Damaar is pressed up against the cage. Brong has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Damaar down to the mat. Damaar avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Damaar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Brong paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Brong drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Brong tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Damaar is trying to get back to his feet.
Damaar dodges the ground and pound from Brong.
Damaar is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Damaar seems a little lost for a moment, as Brong dominates the positioning.
Brong lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Damaar down.

Brong misses with the ground and pound.
Damaar tries to escape but Brong is in control.
Brong has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Brong has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Damaar!

Brong cracks Damaar with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Brong is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Damaar can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Brong is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Damaar to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Damaar shrugs it off.

Brong is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Damaar can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brong misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Damaar is squirming around, avoiding Brong's attempts to control the action.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Brong cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brong changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Damaar tries to avoid it but Brong manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Damaar to the ground. Damaar escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Damaar is staying active underneath Brong, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Tom Brong overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Brong is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Damaar is just riding it out for now. Brong eventually gives up the hold.

Damaar tries for a takedown but Brong sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Brong connects with a nice short shot to Damaar's temple.

Brong uses his free foot to push down on Damaar's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Damaar.
Brong is landing with some decent strikes but Damaar is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Mac Damaar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
