PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between That Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Queensberry Rules (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guy comes to the cage accompanied by Walk by Pantera. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, That Guy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Queensberry Rules!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Guy moves into the clinch.
Rules working aggressively here.
Guy prevents a takedown attempt there.
Rules has a couple of punches blocked by Guy.
Rules lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Guy jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rules walks away with a smile on his face. Guy gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Guy fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rules avoids it really well and circles away.

Guy clinches up against the cage.

Rules tries to pull guard but Guy holds him up against the cage and eventually Rules drops back down to his feet.

That Guy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Queensberry Rules.

Rules decides to pull guard.

Guy drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rules dives on top into guard.
Rules really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Guy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rules must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Guy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rules doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rules manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Guy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Guy seems to be working for a kimura but Rules defends the submission attempt.

Rules is looking for a sweep. Guy is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rules is concentrating on defense, preventing Guy from advancing position.
Rules has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Guy is working away from the top position though.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Guy is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Rules wants to stand back up but Guy manages to pass into side control.
Guy misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Guy goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Rules has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Guy but great work by Rules.

Rules swings around for an armbar but Guy sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Rules's guard.

Guy has gone for a leg lock! Rules slips out almost immediately though and dives into Guy's guard.

Guy is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Guy has his foot on Rules's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rules works his way back into a safe position though.

Rules stands up and waves to Guy to follow him.
Guy takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rules misses with a series of wild punches.

Guy looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Guy not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Guy is working for a submission of some sort.
Rules is holding on to half guard well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Guy looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rules with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Guy wants to work for an arm triangle but Rules is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Guy is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

That Guy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rules tries to clinch but Guy is having none of it.
Nice takedown defense from Rules. No joy for Guy on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for That Guy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rules stuffs the takedown attempt from Guy. Guy gets slowly back to his feet.
Rules lands a lovely overhand right.
Jab, jab by Rules - just one landing.
Rules steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Guy.
The crowd cheers as Rules lands an impressive looking overhand right. Guy doesn't seem phased though.
Rules is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rules lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Rules lands with a good body shot.
Guy with a poor takedown
and Rules makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Guy shoots in for a double leg but Rules sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and Rules counters with a crisp one two that drops Guy! Rules thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Guy to his feet! Guy is in big trouble!

Queensberry Rules seems to be getting the better of the standup.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rules instigates a clinch.
Oh Guy is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Guy is trying to drag Rules to the mat but Rules just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Rules has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Guy uses from the top position.

Rules pushes Guy off and gets back to his feet.
Guy glances at the clock... BAM! Rules nails him with a big right hand! A momentary lapse in concentration sends Guy crashing to the mat! The referee steps in and this one is over! Damn, Guy is out of it, he thinks the ref is his opponent!
