Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sandy Hawkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cross kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The American Dream Song. The crowd seem to be enjoying Hawkins's choice of entrance music: Enter Sandman. Sandy Hawkins has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with David Cross's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 10 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Cross!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sandy Hawkins!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cross misses with a wild body shot.
Cross uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hawkins.
Hawkins throws a right hand that Cross ducks under and follows up with a left that Cross also avoids with ease.
Cross thumps Hawkins with a low kick.

Hawkins clinches with his opponent.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Cross.
Hawkins tries to stall but Cross uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
The referee calls for Hawkins to work.
Cross lands with a left to the head.
Cross tries to throw a body punch but Hawkins avoids it by throwing Cross back against the cage.
Cross struggles to land a body shot inside as Hawkins controls his hands.
Cross misses with a body punch.

Cross turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Cross lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Cross lands a few punches from side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hawkins is not content to let Cross control the position.
Hawkins gets back to half guard.

Hawkins controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

Cross is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Cross keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Cross trying to control the action but Hawkins is working from the bottom.
Hawkins keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Cross wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hawkins keeps working.
Hawkins is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cross's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cross's back!

Hawkins is not going to allow Cross to sit and survive in this position.

Hawkins has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Cross has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Cross looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Cross turns into Hawkins and is now in his guard.
Cross trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Cross passes into half guard.
Hawkins tries to get to full guard but Cross has control of the leg.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cross is thwarting Hawkins's attempts to control the position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Cross trying to mount his opponent but Hawkins defends it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hawkins is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Cross is trying to control the action in half guard but Hawkins is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Cross is thwarting Hawkins's attempts to control the position.
Hawkins is looking for a sweep. Cross is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Cross is nestled in close to Hawkins, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Cross sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Hawkins defending well though.
Cross landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Cross perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Cross seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hawkins does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cross sitting and controlling from the half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hawkins tries to get to full guard but Cross has control of the leg.
Cross winds up and cracks Hawkins with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Cross trying to control the action but Hawkins is working from the bottom.
Cross thows a huge punch but Hawkins dodges it nicely.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cross seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hawkins does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cross is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hawkins is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of David Cross.
Hawkins ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cross moves away.
Hawkins doesn't manage to clinch there - Cross circles away.
Cross blocks a head kick by Hawkins.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Cross dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Cross avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cross misses with a jab to the body
and Hawkins counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Cross throws a right and a left that both miss.
Cross misses with a body shot.
Hawkins on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Cross throws a sloppy head kick and Hawkins moves out of range easily.
Hawkins swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Left hook, right uppercut from Cross.
Hawkins misses with a two punch combination.
Hawkins fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hawkins throws a jab but it's blocked by Cross.
Cross throws a jab but it's blocked by Hawkins.
Cross connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Cross cracks a nice hook into Hawkins's ribs.

Hawkins throws a one two combo.
Hawkins lands with an overhand left.
Sandy Hawkins is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hawkins staying out of range there.
A big left from Hawkins misses.
Hawkins cracks Cross with a good jab.
Hawkins tries a head kick but it misses.
Cross scores with a hook to the body. Hawkins takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Hawkins takes a swing at Cross's ribcage but misses.
Cross misses with a body shot.
Cross checks a low kick from Hawkins.
Hawkins tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cross paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cross lands a jab to the head.
Sandy Hawkins seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Cross swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cross throws a leg kick but Hawkins moved away.
Hawkins avoids the body shot from Cross.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cross throws a front kick that sends Hawkins stumbling back into the cage.
Hawkins fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Cross tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hawkins was well out of range. Poor timing from Cross.
Cross throws a hook to the side of Hawkins's head but Hawkins sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Cross lands a jab to the head.
Cross is looking to wear down Hawkins with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
A slow jab from Cross misses its intended target.
Hawkins blocks a head kick by Cross.
A nice combination there by Hawkins.


Cross is rocked!
Cross looks to score with a jab to the body but Hawkins is just out of range.
Oh Cross is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hawkins misses with a body kick.
Cross is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Hawkins moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sandy Hawkins!
Sandy Hawkins is the new lightweight champion!
Sandy Hawkins seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
