PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Frank Fontaine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dileno Carneiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dileno Carneiro told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Fontaine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dileno Carneiro!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fontaine swats away the attempt to clinch by Carneiro.
Fontaine tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Carneiro tries for a takedown but Fontaine circles away easily
and Fontaine cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Fontaine swings for the body but Carneiro moves out of range.
Fontaine connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Carneiro's hands.
Carneiro fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Frank Fontaine has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dileno Carneiro.

Fontaine gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Fontaine breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Carneiro shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Carneiro on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Carneiro fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Fontaine avoids it really well and circles away.
Carneiro steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Fontaine.

Fontaine scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Fontaine wants to pass to mount but Carneiro is defending the position.
Fontaine looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Fontaine takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Fontaine in particular looking to stall.

Carneiro tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Fontaine manages to move to mount!

Fontaine looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Carneiro tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Carneiro is looking to get to half guard.
Carneiro tries to hold on but Fontaine postures up.
Fontaine knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carneiro on the ground.
Carneiro is bucking up trying to escape but Fontaine cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fontaine lands a big shot there that rocks Carneiro but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Fontaine dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Fontaine throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Fontaine closes the distance and clinches.
With the fighters up against the cage, Fontaine throws an elbow but misses.

Fontaine escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Fontaine misses with a hook. Carneiro ducked under it nicely.
Fontaine pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Carneiro tries to clinch but Fontaine moves out of range.
Carneiro shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Fontaine counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Carneiro thinking.

Fontaine swats away the attempt to clinch by Carneiro.
Fontaine avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Fontaine uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Carneiro has time to react.
Carneiro shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fontaine sprawls well. Fontaine wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Carneiro gets slowly back to his feet.
Fontaine throws a low kick but Carneiro avoids it.
Frank Fontaine seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fighters circling - Fontaine throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Carneiro shoots for a double leg takedown but Fontaine sprawls well. He's pushed Carneiro's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Fontaine pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Fontaine throws a low kick but Carneiro avoids it.
Fontaine throws a sloppy head kick and Carneiro moves out of range easily.
No luck for Carneiro with that takedown attempt.
Fontaine swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Carneiro avoids the head kick by Fontaine.

Fontaine darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Fontaine is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Frank Fontaine overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Carneiro wants to get back to his feet.

Carneiro has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Fontaine escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Fontaine!

Fontaine is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Carneiro is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Carneiro is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Carneiro is working to avoid the ground and pound but Fontaine connects with a decent elbow.
Fontaine happy to just control the position for now.
Carneiro tries to escape but Fontaine is in control.
Fontaine lands some shots froms side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Carneiro is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Fontaine has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Carneiro is being controlled here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Fontaine's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Fontaine just misses with a punch to the body.
Fontaine misses with a body kick.
Carneiro blocks a head kick by Fontaine.
Carneiro shoots for a takedown but Fontaine saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Fontaine darts in and clinches Carneiro up against the cage.
Carneiro is trying to drag Fontaine to the mat but Fontaine just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Fontaine lands with a right to the head.
Carneiro has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Fontaine is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Frank Fontaine has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dileno Carneiro.

Fontaine manages to break the clinch.
Fontaine lands with a cross.
Carneiro takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Fontaine stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Fontaine throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Fontaine shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Carneiro napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Carneiro trying to remain calm as Fontaine controls from the top position.

Fontaine tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fontaine has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Fontaine lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Carneiro down.

Carneiro is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
A lull in the action here as Fontaine stalls from top position.
Fontaine seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Carneiro for as long as he can get away with.

Fontaine is trying to get an arm triangle but Carneiro is defending well.

Carneiro is looking to reverse the position.
Fontaine slows the pace down.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carneiro is trying to get back to half guard.

Frank Fontaine showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Fontaine has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
