PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cody Bowens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mega Boes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boes has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Cody Bowens has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cody Bowens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mega Boes!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bowens catches Boes with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Bowens throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Boes stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Boes looks winded!

Bowens scores with a takedown into Boes's guard.
Bowens is working Boes over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Bowens's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bowens working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Boes's head.
Bowens slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Bowens loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Boes can do anything to dispel that myth.

Cody Bowens has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Bowens really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Bowens bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

The referee asks Bowens politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Bowens prefers to stall for the moment though.

Boes is not content to let Bowens control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Cody Bowens.
Bowens throws a combination. Boes tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Cody Bowens seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bowens shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Boes is trying to defend but Bowens finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Bowens thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Boes's head.

We're going to have a standup here because Cody Bowens wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Boes enables Bowens to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Boes manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bowens accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Bowens closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Boes did well to prevent Bowens getting side control.
Bowens winds up and cracks Boes with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Bowens throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Boes was covering up waiting for the punch and Bowens finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Bowens has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bowens seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Boes for as long as he can get away with.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Bowens not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Bowens feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Boes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bowens. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bowens connects with a good right hand that stumbles Boes. Boes circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Bowens shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Boes's guard.
Boes will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Cody Bowens showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Bowens has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
