Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ben Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fred Ward!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Jorge Garcia and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Ward.
A leg kick checked by Ward.
Lewis misses with a hook
and Ward cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Donk. Ward catches Lewis right on the button with a cross.

Lewis moves into range and clinches up with Ward.
Ward stalling in the clinch but Lewis improves position.
Lewis jumps guard but Ward turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Ward prevents Lewis from breaking the clinch.
Ward wants to stall.
Lewis tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ward smiles and moves away.

Lewis shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Ward keeping control of the position.
Ward avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Lewis.

Lewis is working for a kimura but Ward is defending it quite comfortably.
Ward really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lewis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lewis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ward does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Lewis content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Lewis's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Ward gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Ward keeping moving, preventing Lewis from controlling successfully.

Lewis slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Lewis is looking to take a break and control but Ward is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lewis is trying to get an arm triangle but Ward is defending well.

Ward tries to buck Lewis off but Lewis is having none of it.
Ward tries to escape but Lewis is in control.
Lewis wants to control but Ward is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ward trying to remain calm as Lewis controls from the top position.

Lewis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ward, who protects the arm well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lewis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ward keeps working.

Lewis is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ward has escaped the position, nice work there.

Lewis thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Lewis is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Ward looks calm but he's in trouble here. Lewis gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Ward is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Lewis lets go of the hold and Ward can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ben Lewis!
Ben Lewis decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
