PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between King Marvin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yamapi Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marvin's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, King of Kings by Motorhead. The crowd seem to be enjoying Chan's choice of entrance music: Ikenai Tayou. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, King Marvin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yamapi Chan!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Phil Schofield and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chan closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Nice defenses there by Chan.
Chan throws out a leg kick but Marvin moves out of range and Chan only half commits.
Marvin throws a hook to the side of Chan's head but Chan sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Chan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Chan lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Chan throws a hook to the side of Marvin's head but Marvin sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Marvin tries to close the distance and clinch but Chan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Marvin on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Chan. Chan obviously looking to wear him down.
Marvin takes a kick to the side of the head.
Marvin just misses with a punch to the body.
Marvin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Chan takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Chan uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Marvin.
Marvin sizes up Chan with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Marvin is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Marvin connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Marvin takes a swing at Chan's ribcage but misses.
Chan lands a nice shot to the body.
Marvin on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Chan. Chan obviously looking to wear him down.
Yamapi Chan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Marvin fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Chan on the side of the head.
Marvin lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Marvin misses with an uppercut.

Marvin moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Chan stuffs the takedown attempt from Marvin. Marvin gets slowly back to his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Chan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Marvin moves away.
Chan moves out of range as Marvin strikes.
Chan throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Marvin misses with a looping right.

Chan takes one to the chin there.
Chan motions for Marvin to come forward. Chan throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Chan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Marvin keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Chan.
Chan steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Marvin.
Chan takes a swing at Marvin's ribcage but misses.
Chan throws out a loose jab but Marvin uses good head movement to avoid it.
Marvin gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Chan.
A nice leg kick lands there from Chan.
Chan tries a head kick but it misses.
Marvin misses with a straight left.

Chan on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Marvin closes the distance and clinches.
Chan misses with some punches.
Marvin on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Marvin fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Marvin misses with a hook from the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Marvin.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Marvin lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Chan or not.
Marvin is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Chan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for King Marvin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chan misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Marvin lands a left hand that snaps the head of Chan backwards.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Yamapi Chan dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Chan misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Marvin.
Marvin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chan tries to avoid it but Marvin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chan to the ground. Chan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Marvin slips a jab from Chan.
Marvin connects with a good right hand that stumbles Chan. Chan circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Marvin throws a hook to the side of Chan's head but Chan sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Marvin takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Marvin closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Marvin can't find room to land a body shot as Chan controls the action.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Marvin.
Chan gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Marvin.
Still in the clinch, Marvin scores with a nice short uppercut.

Chan goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Chan digs a right hand underneath Marvin's ribcage. Marvin let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Chan misses with a hook from the clinch.
Chan tries to land knees in the clinch but Marvin avoids the damage to the body.

Chan manages to break the clinch.
Marvin takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Marvin checks a low kick from Chan.
Marvin fails in his attempt to clinch.

Chan uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Marvin.

and Chan cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like King Marvin has been cut.

and Chan makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Marvin scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Chan is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Marvin off and has taken his back!
Marvin looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Marvin breaks Chan's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Chan tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Marvin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Chan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Chan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Marvin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Chan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Marvin is one step ahead there.
Marvin lands a couple of elbows.
Marvin throws an elbow that misses. Chan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Marvin's guard. Nice move by Chan!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Marvin will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

That was a close second round but I would say that King Marvin will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on King Marvin's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Marvin punishes Chan's body with a nice straight punch.
Chan slips under a jab.
Chan feints and then cracks Marvin's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Marvin down.
Marvin swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Marvin ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Marvin closes the distance and pushes Chan back into the cage.
Chan is trying to force a seperation but Marvin has the dominant position.
Marvin avoiding damage as Chan throws knees to the body.
Marvin scores with a nice hook to the head.

Marvin is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Chan pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Marvin gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Marvin is in close to Chan's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Marvin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Marvin has managed to get both his arms back between Chan's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Marvin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Marvin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Chan is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Marvin has his hands clasped together but Chan extends an breaks Marvin's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Chan.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Yamapi Chan!
