Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Julius Maia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Frank Roach!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia tries for a takedown but Roach circles away easily
and Roach connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Roach instigates a clinch.
Maia tries to break the clinch but Roach is controlling the position.
Roach tries to work over Maia's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Roach goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Roach misses with a punch to the body.

Maia breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Roach lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Julius Maia has been cut.
Frank Roach seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Roach gets caught napping as Maia dives in and scores a takedown. Roach manages to retain guard.

Roach trying to control the position.
Maia wants to control from the top but Roach keeps moving.

Roach is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roach can do anything to dispel that myth.
Maia looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Maia seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Roach for as long as he can get away with.
Roach keeping moving, preventing Maia from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Julius Maia.
Maia ducks under a wild hook from Roach.
Maia displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Roach throws out the jab.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Roach swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Maia might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Maia wants to control from the top but Roach keeps moving.
Maia passes Roach's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Maia seems to be looking for submissions.

Roach is defending against the submission attempts here by Maia.

Maia throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Maia is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Roach sees it coming and defends easily.

Maia is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Roach is just riding it out for now. Maia eventually gives up the hold.

Maia is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Roach wants to control but Maia is keeping busy.

Maia seems to be looking for submissions.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Roach wants to get back to full guard.

Maia is trying to work for a kimura but Roach is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Julius Maia dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.

Roach feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Roach throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Maia works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Roach must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Roach throws an elbow that misses. Maia uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Roach's guard. Nice move by Maia!
Maia wants to control from the top but Roach keeps moving.

Roach is looking for a triangle here but Maia uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Maia is trying to get an arm triangle but Roach is defending well.

Maia in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Roach is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
