PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shawn Woolett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dallas Riley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shawn Woolett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dallas Riley!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Riley shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Woolett's guard.
Woolett really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Woolett looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Riley got a little sloppy there for a moment and Woolett has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Riley has managed to get both his arms back between Woolett's legs - danger averted.
Riley trying to stand up but can't free himself from Woolett's guard.
Riley is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Riley in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Woolett tries to buck Riley off but Riley is having none of it.
Riley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Woolett keeps working.

Riley decides to stand back up. Riley steps back and let's Woolett get back to his feet.

Riley fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Woolett to the ground. Riley is now in Woolett's guard.

Woolett is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Riley is aware though and is defending well.
Riley stands up over Woolett, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Riley wants to control from the top but Woolett keeps moving.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Riley is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Riley throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Woolett works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Riley must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Woolett is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Riley defends well.

Woolett has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Riley can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Woolett is breathing heavily.
Riley wants to stand and escape but instead Woolett has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Riley is pulling down on Woolett's head to control his posture.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Dallas Riley wasn't active enough on the ground.

Riley shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Woolett's guard.

Woolett looking for a guillotine here but Riley defends easily.
Riley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Woolett swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Riley avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Riley passes Woolett's left leg - he's now in half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Riley seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Riley moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Woolett.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dallas Riley dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Riley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Woolett tries to avoid it but Riley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Woolett to the ground. Woolett escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Riley stuffs the takedown attempt from Woolett. Woolett gets slowly back to his feet.
Woolett closes the distance and clinches up with Riley, looking for a takedown. Woolett pushes Riley against the cage but Riley circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Woolett doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Riley counters with a one-two to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shawn Woolett. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Riley fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Woolett sprawls well initially but Riley persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Riley is nestled in close to Woolett, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.


Woolett is rocked!
Riley looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Woolett with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Oh Woolett is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Woolett is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Riley pulls his head out easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Riley perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Woolett seems to have got his legs back now.

Riley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Woolett keeps working.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Riley in particular looking to stall.
Riley takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Woolett is not content to let Riley control the position.

Riley is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Woolett sees it coming and defends easily.

Riley is trying to control the action in half guard but Woolett is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Riley stands up and beckons Woolett to join him on the feet.

Woolett gets caught napping as Riley dives in and scores a takedown. Woolett manages to retain guard.

Riley slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Woolett looking for subs off his back but Riley has passed one foot through into half guard.

Riley passes the guard and advances to mount!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Riley tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dallas Riley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Woolett's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Riley is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Woolett's half guard.
Woolett is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Riley jumps into side control!
Dallas Riley has got the better of the ground game so far.

Riley decides to stand up, so the ref orders Woolett to his feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dallas Riley is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Riley has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
