PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bronco Buster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Helio Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie has chosen Dufflebag Boy as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Helio Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Buster scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Gracie tries to improve position but can't.
Gracie sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Gracie trying to control but Buster postures up.
Buster trying to mount his opponent but Gracie defends it.
Buster drops an elbow to the side of Gracie's head.
Gracie is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Gracie tries to lock up and control but Buster gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Gracie is looking to improve his position but Buster isn't that keen on the idea.

Buster takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Gracie tries to hold on but Buster pushes him away.
Gracie sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Buster is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gracie doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Buster.

Buster lands with a hook. Gracie tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Buster shoots for a double leg takedown but Gracie sprawls well. He's pushed Buster's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Buster shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gracie as he avoids it easily.
Buster throws a quick inside leg kick.
Buster closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gracie circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bronco Buster. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Gracie pushes Buster back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Gracie tries to circle away but Buster has him pinned against the cage.
Gracie has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Buster creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Buster has Gracie pressed against the cage, preventing Gracie from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Gracie wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Gracie blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Gracie misses with the head strike.
Buster wants a takedown but no success here.

Buster is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Buster cracks Gracie with a nice body shot.
Buster keeps control of Gracie as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Gracie wants to get back to striking at distance but Buster won't allow it.
Buster drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gracie pulls his leg out and moves away.
Gracie smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Buster tries to clinch but Gracie is having none of it.

Buster gets tackled into the cage by Gracie. Gracie maintains the clinch.
Buster fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Buster wants the takedown. Gracie is fighting it off but Buster persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Gracie's guard against the cage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Buster distracts Gracie with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Buster has control of Gracie's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Gracie regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Bronco Buster overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Buster cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Buster motions for Gracie to come forward. Buster throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Gracie jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Buster lands a really nice looking cross but Gracie seems unphased.
Buster slips a jab from Gracie.

Buster moves into the clinch successfully.
Gracie managing to block the knees to the body from Buster.

Buster has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Gracie regains guard immediately.

Gracie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Buster has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Gracie to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Buster is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Gracie pulls down on the head and he's put Buster to sleep! This one is all over!
