PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Richard Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arnold Rimmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baker comes to the cage accompanied by London Calling. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Richard Baker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Arnold Rimmer!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Chris Edwards and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baker tries to clinch up but Rimmer circles away and keeps his distance.
Rimmer should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Baker moves into range and connects with a jab.

Rimmer feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Rimmer working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Baker is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rimmer trying to control the position from guard on top but Baker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rimmer trying to move into half guard but instead Baker has managed to sweep!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rimmer trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Rimmer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Baker doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Baker manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Baker stands up over Rimmer, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Baker is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Baker wants to stand but Rimmer is controlling his posture from full guard.
Rimmer tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Rimmer has an active guard here but Baker has managed to pass into half guard.
Rimmer wants to get back to full guard.
Rimmer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Baker is working away from the top position though.
Baker throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Rimmer trying to control but Baker postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Baker wants to free his trapped foot but Rimmer is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Rimmer scores a takedown into full mount!
Rimmer looks gassed!
Baker tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Rimmer has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Baker's face.
Rimmer trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Baker is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Rimmer lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Baker hang on?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Baker wants to hold on but Rimmer pushes him away.
Baker is squirming around, avoiding Rimmer's attempts to control the action.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rimmer wants to take Baker's back but he can't do it this time.
Rimmer looking to control but Baker is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Baker suckers Rimmer into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Baker is now in Rimmer's guard!
Baker won't allow Rimmer to sweep him here.
Rimmer wants to control the position but Baker says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Rimmer wants to get back to full guard but Baker has passed into side control.
Baker controlling from the full mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rimmer gets back to half guard.
Baker wants to stand up but Rimmer manages to regain full guard.
Rimmer is pulling down on Baker's head. It's preventing any offense from Baker, at least for the moment.

Rimmer has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Baker can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rimmer is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Baker rolls with it to try and escape but Rimmer cranks on the arm and Baker is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Arnold Rimmer!
