PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Adams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Spat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Adams comes to the cage accompanied by Kronik. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian Adams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Spat!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Adams closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Spat trying to remain calm as Adams controls from the top position.
Spat tries to buck Adams off but Adams is having none of it.
Spat holding on.

Adams thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Adams sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Spat is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Adams landing strikes.
Adams in side control, throwing shots but Spat defends.
Spat is looking to reverse the position.
Spat manages to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Spat tries to get to full guard but Adams has control of the leg.
Adams has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Adams trying to control the action but Spat is working from the bottom.
Adams working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Spat holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Spat wants to improve his position but Adams is controlling well.

Spat looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Adams tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Spat.
Spat wants to get back to full guard.

Adams not doing much here.
Spat is looking to control Adams's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Spat avoid being mounted?
Adams seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Spat is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Brian Adams.

Adams closes the distance and pushes Spat back into the cage.
Spat swings wildly with an uppercut but Adams uses good head movement to avoid it.
Still in the clinch, Spat scores with a nice short uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Spat stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Spat misses with a punch on the inside.
Adams is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Adams tries to land knees in the clinch but Spat avoids the damage to the body.
Spat cracks Adams with a nice body shot.

Adams breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Spat tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Spat decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Adams's guard.
Adams wants to sweep here but Spat controlling him for the moment.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Adams keeping full guard, as Spat tries to pass.
Spat stops Adams from standing up.
Spat is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jack Spat.

Spat darts in and clinches Adams up against the cage.
Spat is stalling here.

Adams gets control of Spat's arms and successfully pulls guard. Adams will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Adams is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Adams is on top in guard.

Spat isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Adams stacks Spat on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Adams!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jack Spat will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Adams fails with an attempt to clinch.
Spat moves in looking to clinch but Adams pushes him off.
Spat lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Brian Adams has been cut.
Spat lands a really nice looking cross but Adams seems unphased.

Spat looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Adams is trying to get back to full guard.
Spat is taking a breather. Adams says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Adams is not content to let Spat control the position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jack Spat hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Spat fails to land with a series of punches.
Adams tries to clinch up but Spat circles away and keeps his distance.
Spat throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Spat shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Adams is trying to defend but Spat finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Spat is trying to control the action in half guard but Adams is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Adams wants to get back to full guard.

Adams manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Some wild striking there from Spat.
Adams pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Spat back to the cage. Adams follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Spat doesn't manage to clinch there - Adams circles away.

Adams stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Adams wants it to stay on the feet.

Adams drives through and clinches with Spat against the cage.

Adams is trying to trip Spat. He has hold of a leg but Spat is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Adams persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Spat looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Spat utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Spat trying to keep a closed guard but Adams is proving a slippery customer.
Adams pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Spat is keeping the position for now.

Adams wants to control from the top but Spat keeps moving.

Adams decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Spat, up you get!
Adams shoots for a takedown but Spat saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Adams. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Adams shoots in looking for a takedown. Spat tries to sprawl out of it but Adams keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Spat manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Adams counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Adams.
Spat throws a head punch that misses.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Adams as Spat tries to tie him up.
Adams jumps guard but Spat turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Spat tries to stall but Adams uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Adams tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Spat just stands there and leans against the cage.
Spat is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Adams is defending well for now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Spat blocks the strikes from Adams.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jack Spat will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Spat shoots in but no luck this time.
Adams defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Spat.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Adams is defended easily by Spat.
Adams closes the distance and clinches up with Spat, looking for a takedown. Adams pushes Spat against the cage but Spat circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Spat leaves Adams with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Adams. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Spat doesn't manage to clinch there - Adams circles away.
Spat looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Jack Spat seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Jack Spat is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Adams shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Spat as he avoids it easily.
Spat rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Adams moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Spat shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Adams pinned against the cage. Adams gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Spat is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Spat throws a front kick aimed at Adams's knee but Adams avoids it well.
Adams blocks a head kick by Spat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Adams tries to clinch up but Spat circles away and keeps his distance.
Spat tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Adams paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Brian Adams has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Adams moves into the clinch successfully.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brian Adams.
I think Spat has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
