PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sean Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mjr Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sean Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mjr Ruiz!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Carter.
Carter shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ruiz as he jumps to the side.

Carter looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Ruiz trying to control from the bottom.

Ruiz manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Ruiz closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Carter quickly recovers to half guard.
Carter is looking to get back to is feet but Ruiz passes into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Carter is trying to get back to half guard.
Ruiz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carter keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carter is trying to control Ruiz's posture but Ruiz avoids it.
Ruiz trying to control the position but Carter is working away.
Carter trying to remain calm as Ruiz controls from the top position.
Ruiz trying to control the action but Carter is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ruiz is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Carter's shoulder. That is not cool.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mjr Ruiz hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Ruiz shoots in looking for a takedown but Carter manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ruiz's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Carter forces Ruiz back against the cage and clinches.

Carter gets control of Ruiz's arms and successfully pulls guard. Carter will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Ruiz works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Carter is not content to let Ruiz control the position.

Ruiz works his way into full mount!
Ruiz lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Carter hang on?

Ruiz with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Carter really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carter is looking to improve his position but Ruiz isn't that keen on the idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mjr Ruiz dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Ruiz is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Carter's half guard.

Ruiz is keen to just control but Carter is a slippery customer.
Ruiz is controlling the pace.
Ruiz prevents Carter from improving his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Ruiz passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Carter!
Carter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ruiz on the ground.
Ruiz tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Carter is squirming around, avoiding Ruiz's attempts to control the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ruiz is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Carter to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Carter shrugs it off.
Carter has given up his back here.
Ruiz tries to get the hooks in deep but Carter pushed the leg off.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Ruiz.
Carter staying busy and making it hard for Ruiz to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ruiz has the hooks in. Carter is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ruiz is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Let's hope that Ruiz has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Mjr Ruiz has got the better of the ground game so far.

Carter is keeping busy.

Ruiz is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Carter with him. Carter is trying to defend but Ruiz has an arm under the chin now! Carter grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mjr Ruiz!
