Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gene Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Colton Smith!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith blocks a head kick by Anderson.
Anderson jabs at Smith's body.
Anderson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Smith counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Smith.
Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Anderson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Smith is one step ahead there.
Anderson trying to control the position.

Anderson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well.

Smith is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Anderson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Anderson has escaped and now he's on top!
Anderson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Anderson advances to half guard.
Anderson trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom.
Smith trying to hold on to Anderson's head to control him but Anderson postures up.
Smith might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Anderson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Anderson trying to pass the guard but Smith defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Anderson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Smith is not content to let Anderson control the position.
Anderson throwing shots but Smith is blocking nicely.
Anderson is trying to control the action in half guard but Smith is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Anderson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Anderson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Smith has Anderson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Anderson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Anderson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Anderson shoots in and bounces Smith off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Anderson trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smith is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Smith looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Smith utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Anderson stopping the sweep attempt from Smith.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Anderson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Smith looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Anderson passes into half guard.

Anderson wants to work for an arm triangle but Smith is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth.
Anderson wants to stand but Smith has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smith is in trouble now - Anderson has advanced to mount!

Anderson throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Smith has his hands clasped together but Anderson breaks the hold and Smith is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Anderson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Gene Anderson!
