Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dallas Riley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Floyd Howard!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Howard instigates a clinch.

Howard turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Howard manages to end up in side control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Howard moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Riley is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Howard asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Riley really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Riley tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Howard wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Floyd Howard was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Riley shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Howard as he jumps to the side.
Riley shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Howard pinned against the cage. Howard gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Howard keeps the fight on the outside.

Howard decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Riley strikes from the bottom but Howard passes into mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Riley prevents any damage by holding on tight.
Howard looking to control and managing it successfully.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Howard is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Riley can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Riley is trying desperately to improve position.
Howard scoring with strikes but Riley is staying in there.
Howard controlling the pace for now.
Riley tries to reverse the position but Howard maintains control.

Riley wants to hold on but Howard pushes him away.

Howard stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Riley misses with the combination.
Howard tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Riley manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Howard bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Riley is not content to let Howard control the position.
Riley is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Floyd Howard dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Riley tries to sprawl but Howard drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Howard seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Howard gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Howard. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Howard pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Riley moves in looking to clinch but Howard pushes him off.
Riley tried to score with a low kick but Howard checks it.
Riley has his takedown stuffed

and Howard counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Howard.

Riley wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Howard gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Riley.

Howard breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Riley tries to clinch there but Howard circles away.

Howard bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Riley is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Howard is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Riley can't do much from the bottom here.
Riley is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Riley manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Howard is looking to control Riley's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Howard avoid being mounted?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Riley checks a low kick from Howard.
Howard slaps away a takedown attempt from Riley, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dallas Riley. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Howard counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Riley!

Howard goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Riley turns into him and now he's in Howard's guard.

Riley uses his free foot to push down on Howard's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Howard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Howard tries to buck Riley off but Riley takes his back!
Howard wants to escape the position.
Howard covering up well and avoiding damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
