PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Antonio Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Chaplin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Antonio Alvarez has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Antonio Alvarez seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Antonio Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Charlie Chaplin!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chaplin swats away the attempt to clinch by Alvarez.
Chaplin stuffs the takedown.
Alvarez has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Chaplin.
Alvarez fails with a takedown attempt.
Chaplin dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Alvarez. That did some damage!
Chaplin connects with a leg kick. Alvarez looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Alvarez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Chaplin did well to prevent Alvarez getting side control.

Alvarez is working for a submission of some sort.
Chaplin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alvarez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Chaplin is staying active underneath Alvarez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Alvarez connects with a nice short shot to Chaplin's temple.
Alvarez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Alvarez is looking for a kimura but Chaplin is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Alvarez to get the leverage.

Alvarez is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Chaplin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Alvarez.

Alvarez drops back looking for a leg! Chaplin is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chaplin manages to kick Alvarez off! Alvarez jumps back into Chaplin's guard.
Chaplin is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Alvarez is controlling him.

Alvarez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Alvarez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Alvarez is working Chaplin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Alvarez postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Chaplin is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Alvarez, into his guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Antonio Alvarez will probably get the nod.
That's time! Alvarez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Chaplin cracks Alvarez with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Chaplin throws a head kick that Alvarez semi-blocks.
Chaplin looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Chaplin fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
A nice leg kick lands there from Chaplin.
Alvarez is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Chaplin counters with a nice low kick that buckles Alvarez's knee momentarily.
Chaplin feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Alvarez's calf.
A shot to the liver by Chaplin. Beautiful body shot.
Alvarez circles away from the clinch attempt.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Chaplin.

Alvarez has a takedown stuffed.
Chaplin connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Alvarez has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Charlie Chaplin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chaplin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Alvarez.
Alvarez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Chaplin sprawls well. Chaplin wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alvarez gets slowly back to his feet.

Chaplin scores with a head kick. Alvarez tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Nice body punch from Chaplin - that landed with a thud.
Chaplin lands with a left to the head.
Chaplin lands a good knee to the midsection. Alvarez won't want to take too many of those.

The referee is keeping an eye on Alvarez - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Alvarez has Chaplin pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Alvarez pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Chaplin tumbling to the mat - Alvarez dives into Chaplin's guard.

Alvarez postures up in Chaplin's guard and throws a big left but Chaplin blocks it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alvarez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Chaplin is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Chaplin has escaped and now he's on top!
Chaplin wanted to stand there but Alvarez had control of the position.

Alvarez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Chaplin defends well.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Alvarez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Charlie Chaplin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Alvarez shoots in for a takedown but Chaplin shows good takedown defense.

Chaplin paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Alvarez shoots in but Chaplin avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Alvarez chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Chaplin can pounce on him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Alvarez doesn't manage to clinch there - Chaplin circles away.
Chaplin lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Chaplin lands with a thumping leg kick.
Chaplin scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Alvarez takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Chaplin lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Alvarez takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Chaplin jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Alvarez takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Chaplin feints and then cracks Alvarez's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Alvarez down.
Chaplin throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Alvarez's head.

Chaplin closes the distance and pushes Alvarez back into the cage.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Alvarez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Chaplin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Charlie Chaplin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Chaplin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
