PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Mazer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Giret Dayz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mazer comes to the cage accompanied by The Fighter. Mike Mazer could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Giret Dayz's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Mazer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Giret Dayz!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dayz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mazer paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mazer shoots in for a takedown but Dayz shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Mazer looking to score a takedown here. Dayz is defending well but Mazer drives through and ends up in Dayz's guard.
Dayz controls Mazer momentarily but Mazer frees himself.
Dayz throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Dayz can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mazer controls the pace.
Mazer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dayz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Mike Mazer wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Mazer dives in and grabs Dayz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Dayz pushes down on Mazer's head and hops out.
Mazer shoots in and drives through. Dayz sprawls well.

Dayz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mazer is working Dayz over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mazer shoots for a double leg takedown but Dayz sprawls well. He's pushed Mazer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mazer looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dayz is fending him off so far but Mazer persists. Nope, Dayz circles away and we're back to standing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mazer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Dayz tries to lock up and control but Mazer gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mazer changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Dayz fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Dayz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mazer is working away from the top position though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dayz can't keep his opponent in guard - Mazer advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Mazer is taking a breather. Dayz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Mazer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mazer seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Dayz for as long as he can get away with.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mazer closes the distance and clinches up with Dayz, looking for a takedown. Mazer pushes Dayz against the cage but Dayz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mike Mazer showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mazer, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
