PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tyler Brooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wes Ekwall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brooks's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Tom Sawyer. Ekwall has chosen Linkin Park--One Step Closer as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tyler Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wes Ekwall!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Brooks does it's job there.

Brooks closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Ekwall keeping control of the position.
Brooks trying to control from half guard but Ekwall is working away.
Ekwall is trying to maintain the position but Brooks is very close to passing his half guard.
Ekwall is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Brooks scores with a couple of nice shots.
Ekwall is trying to get back to full guard.
Brooks looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Brooks is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ekwall is just riding it out for now. Brooks eventually gives up the hold.
Ekwall on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Ekwall tries to roll over but Brooks keeps him under control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brooks thows a huge punch but Ekwall dodges it nicely.
Brooks thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ekwall's head.
The fighters are battling for position here. Ekwall manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brooks postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ekwall has momentary wrist control but Brooks slips an elbow through the middle.
Brooks trying to control but Ekwall is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ekwall is controlling Brooks's posture.
Brooks with a flurry of punches that miss.
Brooks engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Brooks postures up and lands a big shot to Ekwall's brow.
Ekwall is trying to control the position but Brooks postures up.
Ekwall is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Wes Ekwall was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Ekwall wants to clinch.

Ekwall feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Brooks is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ekwall throwing strikes but missing.
Ekwall postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Ekwall landing some decent shots from guard.

Brooks is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ekwall defends well.

Ekwall is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Brooks has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Ekwall is looking to defend but Brooks has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Ekwall! Brooks pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Ekwall taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Tyler Brooks!
Our winner, Tyler Brooks, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
