Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shaun Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Jake Shields enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Shields!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson scores with a three punch combo!
Johnson uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Johnson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Shields to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Johnson feints a jab promting Shields to slip. Johnson then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Shields slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Horrible takedown by Shields or perhaps it was just good defense by Johnson which made him look bad.
Shaun Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Shields.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Johnson, as that shot connected.

Shields has Johnson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Shields pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Johnson tumbling to the mat - Shields dives into Johnson's guard.

Johnson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Johnson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Shields defends well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That was a close round but I would say that Shaun Johnson will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
