PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Norris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyle Scissors (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scissors is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Paper Cut - Linkin Park. The key to victory for Chuck Norris has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chuck Norris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kyle Scissors!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Norris changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Scissors looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Scissors is trying to improve his position.
Norris working the head and body with strikes.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Norris will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Norris wants to stand but Scissors has his arm trapped.
Scissors tries to escape but Norris is in control.
Norris wants to stand but Scissors is controlling his arm.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Scissors wants to control but Norris postures up.
Scissors is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scissors tries to get to full guard but Norris has control of the leg.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Norris shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Scissors but Scissors pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Norris blocks a head kick by Scissors.

Norris clinches up against the cage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Scissors goes for a takedown attempt but Norris pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Norris shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Scissors as he avoids it easily.
Scissors tries to close the distance and clinch up but Norris swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A combination from Scissors does no damage.
Horrible takedown by Scissors or perhaps it was just good defense by Norris which made him look bad.
Norris takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Norris fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Scissors, pushing him back against the cage.
Norris blocks a body shot from Scissors.
Norris comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Norris gets control of Scissors's arms and successfully pulls guard. Norris will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Scissors trying to control but Norris is working from the bottom.

Scissors drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Norris manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Scissors has Norris in his guard.

Scissors is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Scissors is working an open guard so Norris takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
A slapping leg kick lands for Norris.

Scissors gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Norris wants to control from the top but Scissors keeps moving.
Norris wants to get up but he can't break Scissors's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Scissors looking for a guillotine here but Norris defends easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Norris clinches up against the cage.
Norris goes for a takedown in the clinch but Scissors prevents it.
Scissors goes for a takedown attempt but Norris pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Norris lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Scissors tries to close the distance and clinch up but Norris swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Norris is looking to clinch but Scissors is avoiding it.

Scissors shoots and misses
and Norris finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Scissors is breathing heavily.
Norris lands with a nice combination. Scissors backs away looking to recover.
Scissors tries to bum rush Norris with a series of wild strikes but Norris uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Scissors throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Norris sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Scissors fails to land the takedown.
Chuck Norris has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kyle Scissors.
Scissors takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Norris throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Scissors.
Norris tries to clinch but Scissors moves out of range.
Norris lands with a slapping head kick.
Scissors swats away the attempt to clinch by Norris.
Chuck Norris seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Norris gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Norris breaks from the clinch.
Norris fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Norris shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Scissors wants to sweep here but Norris controlling him for the moment.
Scissors throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Scissors looking for a sweep. Not yet Scissors, not yet.
Norris keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Scissors's head.

Scissors is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Norris really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Scissors is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Norris keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Chuck Norris is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Norris fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Scissors sprawls well initially but Norris persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Scissors tries to get to full guard but Norris has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Scissors is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Norris stands up from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Norris looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Scissors is fending him off so far but Norris persists. Nope, Scissors circles away and we're back to standing.
Scissors shoots for a double leg takedown but Norris sprawls well. He's pushed Scissors's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Norris finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Scissors doesn't manage to clinch there - Norris circles away.

and Norris counters by moving into the clinch.

and Norris finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Norris wants to control the pace but Scissors is squirming around nicely.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Scissors is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Scissors tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kyle Scissors has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Scissors is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chuck Norris.
Well Norris has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
