PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jokke Mela (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Hill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mela comes into the arena with Da Rockwilder blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jokke Mela!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bobby Hill!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hill stuffs the takedown.
Mela scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Hill doesn't seem bothered though.
Hill uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mela.
Jokke Mela seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hill will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Horrible takedown by Mela or perhaps it was just good defense by Hill which made him look bad.
Hill displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mela.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jokke Mela. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hill shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Mela counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hill won't be happy with that.
Mela in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mela tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mela has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hill tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mela wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Hill manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Mela gets back to full guard.
Hill is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Mela is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hill is trying to get back to full guard.
Mela is thwarting Hill's attempts to control the position.
Mela takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Hill trying to hold on to Mela's head to control him but Mela postures up.
Hill wants to improve his position but Mela is controlling well.

Hill is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Hill trying to control but Mela postures up.
Hill keeping hold of Mela's head, controlling as best he can.
Hill is looking to improve his position.
Mela wants to free his trapped foot but Hill is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bobby Hill has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Hill shoots in looking for a takedown. Mela tries to sprawl out of it but Hill keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mela manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mela has a takedown stuffed.
Hill thuds his right hand into Mela's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Mela misses with a takedown

and Hill counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Mela is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Hill scores with a couple of nice shots.
Hill missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Hill not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Hill passes to full mount!
Hill lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mela is trying desperately to improve position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hill postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mela looks a forlorn figure.


Mela is rocked!
Mela in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Oh Mela is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hill putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Mela can't escape the position.
Hill looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Mela covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bobby Hill!
